I picked up this wrasse yesterday. He was active in the store. He ate this morning. He is acting lethargic now at bottom and a little tippy at times. I noticed this spot on him. Suggestions. He is in QT with a yellow Tang which is doing wonderfully.

It's whitish, raised bump. Doesn't look like ich I've seen, but I've not seen much.

It looks like an injury or the start of a bacterial infection to me.

Do you have antibiotics on hand, I can tell the fish is in QT and it looks like a beautiful melanarus!

I had a two part tropical science marine max. I have no way to quarantine new fish. I always used marine max but seems its not carried as much. Is there another product that helps with antioxidant and disease prevention

I have prazi, metro, methylene blue, malachite green, and copper power on hand. I treated both with a methylene blue dip yesterday when I first got them home before going into the QT.

Just tested:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Salinity 36 (I'll adjust this slowly)

I would hold off on treating for any infections yet, I’d observe for a day or two. If it starts to get any redness or the affected area gets worse, I’d treat with antibiotics.

I do see what looks like an injury and maybe two spots that may be ich. It’s tough to tell. A healthy melanarus is pretty tough and able to fight off really bad ich and even velvet infestations — but if it’s not very healthy all bets are off. Yellow tangs can be tough to spot ich/spots on. Blue lighting often reveals more of them.

The wrasse died overnight.

The yellow Tang still looks good and is acting healthy. Should I continue with my normal quarantine process or switch it by starting meds sooner or in different order?

Normal process:
Acclimate
Methylene blue bath
Add to QT
Observe, getting the fish eating and fatten for 1-2 weeks.
2 rounds of prazi
Followed by 30 days copper power at 1.75 with 2-3 day ramp up.

The Tang is eating greedily and plenty plump. Should I start with copper tonight? I don't want any possible disease to spread to the Tang.

I’d start copper. We usually acclimate fish to 1.0 PPM copper power, (we being @HotRocks and I) we seem to have had better success with this. Not sure why but I suspect the fish was in similar levels of copper prior to shipping from most distributors.

I'm not following. I thought it had to be 1.5+ to reach therapeutic levels.
