got this little guy for free from my LFS that was just sitting on the bottom of their frag tank.

He’s looked like this since I got him about 3-4 weeks. Shouldn’t he be opening up more?

He gets indirect flow from a Sicce nano 1000 that bounces off the glass and hits him. PAR is around 150-170 ish as I have my 12” AI blade grow turned down to 60%.

Hmmm, it does look a little retracted. Can you let us know your tank parameters? How old is your tank here?

#reefsquad can anyone take a look for the OP please 🙂

Have you tried moving it down more to see if it extends more? low par low/moderate flow makes these guys very happy :)

I agree with the Mayor. Lower it down to lower PAR. Moderate flow to move the tentacles but not whipping them around.
My hammers are at the ends and front/back glass so they get lower PAR.

Give it some time. Your tank is new and needs to stabilize.

I could try that. Would it be okay for me to cut off the huge dollop of glue from the skeleton with bone cutters?
You could or keep it and use it as a wider base to attach it to a small rock or rock at the bottom.

I’ll just keep it and shove it in one of my nooks in some rock lower down. Don’t want to stress it.

Bottom right just above my zoa garden I’m thinking. I’ll probably put my Duncan in its spot that gets here tomorrow. I may have went overboard on the WWC sale earlier this week…haha

Post up what you got from WWC when it arrives. We (Reef Squad) can help with placement, etc.

Want to put acans on the bottom rock on the left of my zoas.

Let me know what #reefsquad suggests for placement on my scape pic I posted before this. Thinking birds nest top left, Duncan where the hammer is and the monti top left so it shades the mushroom. No idea where to put the candy cane.

I’d love to learn!

You placement sounds good. For the Duncan, the middle is good. They can adapt to higher light if intensity is increased slowly or moving them higher slowly.

The bird's nest is one of the more forgiving SPS too, so give it a try. I know what it's like when there's a big sale and you can't resist 🤣

That’s one sps I can’t personally keep 🤣. I think I fry them with to much light lol.

You are pushing a lot of light! I dunno though, mine is high up right under the light and has exploded. About the size of a volleyball from a frag 2 years ago. They do become their own worst enemies with flow and shading though when they get big. Ive had to adjust to keep it happy. Way more flow with it bigger, and multiple fixtures for angled light.

Yeah I tried a couple and cooked them under my halides lol.. red dragon is the same way I grow them to a volleyball then they start to Stn from the inside out! 🙄. Mine got so big it broke off the ledge it grew on and I could never get the flow right again and it turned up the ghost over a couple weeks sigh..

This is what I'd do or move the Candy Cane to the left of the Monti and put the Monti where the Candy Cane label is.

Thanks!! Where you put the candy cane is a vertical wall. I could find a nook possibly to glue it down to. Probably easier than trying to mount a monti there haha.

What would you put on the top right behind the leather?? It’s a really nice shelf I’d like to take advantage of.
