Inspired by this thread: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/would-you-ever-do-a-themed-tank.582526/

How do you feel about us hosting a tank contest where you pick your own theme and put together a tank? Avengers, Baseball, Spongebob, etc.. anything!

The rules could be real simple and the prize could be something REALLY nice since putting together a nice nano tank isn't all that easy!

Would you participate and what should the rules be?

I would consider it. A previous contest leaves me a little hesitant to enter though. After investing time and money, the original rules of the contest need to be adhered by. This includes any contest categories, contest dates, who chooses the winner (voting or judges), and making sure prizes are actually sent out.

One big consideration for me is how voting will be conducted. If voting will be performed by a certain group of judges and based upon the actual tank, and not how many Facebook friends you can recruit to cast votes for you, I would be more likely to enter.

I'm game!!! I have a IM14 peninsula just waiting for a good theme.

Just off the top of my head... "The lands of always winter"

Game of Thrones themed. Getting excited just thinking about it.

As for rules:

1) must be a newly established tank. Someone submitting a 2 year old tank with a theme for the contest seems unfair for those who are just starting one.

2) what qualifies as a nano? Less than 20 gallons? 30? 15? Need to establish a baseline.

3) Contest length- 12 months? 6 months? Need time to let stuff grow out but not too long to lose interest.

4) Who judges? Voting like a POTM?

I would. Just another reason to start a tank. I know i wouldn't win but still would be cool. Also should be a theme almost everybody knows a little bit about.

I would do it if we are all starting from scratch with the same tank with ground rules on equipment

Extra points if you build your tank from scratch as well. Size limit 10 gallons. AND most importantly $300 budget for everything including first fish and coral. Then judge. Someone who has 10K worth of corals will always win.

I agree with a size limit of 10 gallons. I think 9 to 12 months is fair. Budget is tough because like many I have a bunch of equipment already, but should be limited.
