I have a harlequin tusk in QT right now. He's going into the DT in a week or so.
I had another thread and most of the members recommended using an acclimation box. I've never used an acclimation box before. I have always thought that the fish need to "sort it out" on their own. I've witnessed some territorial disputes, but never more than a day or so.
The main "bully" in the tank is a bi-color angel. When I introduced my dwarf lion 4 months ago, the angel nipped the lion's tail until they figured out whose cave belonged to who. This lasted for maybe 2 days. Now the lion sleeps out in the open and there is no problem.
The tusk is still a juvenile (has the spots), but is the same size (if not bigger) than the angel.
I understand the concept of the acclimation box, but I don't know if it will have any effect on territorial disputes. Any territorial issues would still have to be worked out. I also kind of feel like it would be stressful for the new fish. He is going from a 20L into a small box where he can see shelter but can't get to it. I am also afraid that my puffer will swim into it and knock it off the glass.
Please, tell me any positive or negative acclimation box stories.
