I have algae in my tank that I can't identify. That is the best picture I could get of it, it is a yellowish color and more dense than hair algae and is mostly in a cave/over hang in my tank. Anyone have an idea on what it is? Is it harmful? Should I take it out? I have already scrubbed most of the visible stuff off my rocks. Thanks a bunch

I am not sure, it had been present in my tank for quite a while but recently started to grow on the front of my rock. It could be a sponge because it does not feel like algae to me. I just wanted to make sure it was nothing to be worried about.

I believe it can be a species of a sponge
Nutrients will allow it to grow rapidly

Okay cool, it has never grown rapidly in my opinion I just got annoyed when I started to go on the front of my rock near some coral. It has been present in my tank after my cycle finished and I've always just left it alone till a couple days ago.

If it is unsightly then you can take the rock out and apply peroxide to the areas you want to rid of it. Let stand for 5 minutes and then put back into the tank

I have not minded it at all, it has always been in the shadows and different looking. I was creeping near some kenyas and was nervous it was algae and would harm them. The piece of Rock it is on has always had very interesting things grow off it so I enjoy watching it change.
