Hey all stocking up my reef tank. Only have had 4 fish for awhile yellow tang 6 line damsel n clown. Bought a fox face last night acclimated n sent him in after 15 minutes n tang went nuts n started fighting him but he didn't even try anything so I tuned the lighting off n this morning I made a quick tank divider with egg crate. Any try this n it work would like to know.

it could calm down and it might not.
tangs can have serious attitude and it could be just a matter them just establishing a pecking order, not liking the tank size or it could be similar fish coloration. some ways around it could be to put a mirror up on one size of the tank to distract the tang, or even using printed cutouts of tangs keep their attention.
for future consideration, an acclimation box is an invaluable tool in my system. it gives new fish time to collect themselves a bit, the established fish an opportunity to get used to a new occupant and in this case gives you a chance to see how the fish are going to interact before you send them off to a larger body of water that isn't easy to catch them from.

that all being said... between a yellow tang, a damsel and a six-line I would assume that there was going to be trouble in paradise at some point. hope it all calms down for you :)

Don't feel alone, my adventure is starting today also, about to introduce several more fish to my 120 DT. Just put in my Pintail fairy wrasse and my Purple tang already tried to dominate it, the whole tank attitude has temporarily changed, and the real fun is yet to come, gonna introduce a Tomini tang and a LT tang later. That's when the fireworks will begin.

Yeah I understand maybe a little small but I just upgraded due to coral growth but I really wanted those fish going to upgrade again in future n turn the tank into a frag system but for now I guess the egg crate wall can help to acclimate each other

Update the egg crate wall didn't work some how the foxie got passed it idk how bc it was glass to glass hudenie lol. Aggression is still there but calming down I guess they are going to have to learn to live together just hope they don't kill each other

My purple and desjardini took turns taking runs at my magnificent foxface when he was added. They calmed down after awhile. Once in a while they will still charge it or each other, it is more of a dominance issue since the barbs don't come out.

Yellow Tangs are notorious buttheads long term in a 4 foot long tank, had to boot mine from my 90 gallon and replace it with a One Spot Foxface. Much better tank mate. How big is your Yellow Tang?

Small to medium n there not fighting now after a few days I'm so happy about that they sometimes charge but no fighting if that's all they do I'm ok with that as long as they don't stress out n die
Happy reefing
