And yes, there are breeders in the states, and they sale to some poplar vendors, and those vendors sale to you....I the past 1yr-2yrs How many of you have read or were told that your Yellow Tang specifically came from Hawaii, or did you read "That Yellow Tangs originate from Hawaii", which is true, but they come from other places to, and are heavily breed for profit.

Come on Nokiaec11. You are wrong. Just admit it and move on. Keep on trying to get the last word when you are obviously wrong just cause you to loose all credibility.
It is likely not easy to raise Yellow Tang, but doable. Cost still high and tank raise Yellow Tang is still a bit more expensive than wild caught. No one, at this time, will scam other people by selling tank raise Yellow Tang as wild caught.

Research before you respond...just you don't about it, don't assume something is not true, look below and check for yourself:

https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dar/files/2018/12/aquarium_permit_faq_rev6.pdf

An faq released by the Hawaii state government. This has not completely stopped the collection of fish for trade, except west coast of hawaii as they complete their assessment and determine how to issue permits that meet HEPA conditions. Having seen a biota captive bred tang and its price recently . If they sold as wild, they would be selling well below its market value, as captive bred tangs and angelfish atm are more expensive than their wild caught siblings. These are not like clown fish or seahorses where a hobbyist with reasonable expenses, knowledge and attention to detail can raise from fry to fish.

Yeah, this hobby can be a mess if you are one who puts to much intonwhere a fiah came from...Truth be told unless you personally gather a coral or fish yourself you have no idea where is came from, and that goes for the LFS's all over...It is highly possible to buy a Yellow Tang that actually came out of Hawaiian waters, the hobby is so diluted with Yellow Tangs from all over it would be difficult to determine actual origin of the fish, not the species...Live Aquaria list their Yellow Tangs origin, and currently no Hawaii Yellow Tangs

...or there are 600-1000 available each week from O'ahu collected in Hawaii. If you really live there, then you don't know much about what is going on. They went up about $2 wholesale when the collection rules changes, but they have ALWAYS been available in fine numbers. Who knows what might happen in the future.

You can catch Yellows in Hawaii, just need to use larger nets. Issue is still ongoing though...

.....
(I removed the pictures)
Just because a not too reputable dealer put it on the web on their web site trying to justify higher price for their yellow tang, you assumed it is true.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

It is hard to walk back being wrong and this is not working...just admit it or drop out. Most people just drop out and let the more informed people keep contributing.

Hawaii put a ban on collecting them....If you find one, the price will be higher than before, and eventually all of naturals will be replaced with all tank breed and raised.

IT HAS NOT PASSED. PEOPLE ARE STILL COLLECTING FISH FROM HAWAII RIGHT NOW, INCLUDING YELLOW TANGS. RIGHT NOW.

THERE IS NO BAN.

LET ME SAY IT AGAIN: THERE IS NO BAN.

...AND AGAIN: THERE IS NO BAN.

YOU WERE WRONG. YOU STILL ARE. EVEN IF A COMPLETE BAN COMES ONE DAY, YOU WILL STILL BE WRONG ABOUT THIS AT THIS MOMENT.

No the bill has not passed, but the harvesting has been halted since 2017...the bill will make it permanent or make the courts lift the ban. ThatPetPlace.com is reputable vendor for aquarium fish, and even they will tell you there is a ban for collecting Hawaii aquarium fish...find 1 palce online that will tell that Yellow Tangs they have in stock come from Hawaii...not Joe Blow who has a local LFS, those guys just want a $buck, in actuality most of them are asvknowledgable as internet makes them.

Catching restrictions in Hawaii and no flights due to covit is making the prices go higher.

We sell them Quarantined for $99.99 and most other places are also in general price range. Hippo tangs go for 119.99 with us.

But I expect the prices to stay near that range even if things go back to normal.
Wholesalers are going to try to hold the price to make up the loss of income over this year.
