Zenya issue

My Zenyah is not looking so hot. Not sure what is going on. I tested the water (looks good). Did a 10% water change, added iodine and minerals, retested the water and still nothing. The only major change I've made was upgrading my light from compact flourescent to T50 HO. Any ideas on what's happening?

What type of Xenia? is it? It could be light shock. What are your water parameters?

Well first are we talking about Xenia?? Saltwater Aquarium Corals for Marine Reef Aquariums: White Pom Pom Xenia, Red Sea - Aquacultured And second, your new light did you acclimate it to the tank so corals wont be burned?

0 nitrate, 0 nitrites, 300 alkalinity, 8.4 ph, 0 ammonia, salt is at 1.024. Not sure about type I didn't realize their was more than one.

FSU is right, odd are its not liking your light at the moment. How long have you had the xenia? One thing to remember is that xenia either becomes a weed or melts in tanks.

Like I said in the second post it could be light shock. Some xenias also like dirtier water.

Sorry about the anemone loss. They are hard to save once they become stressed.

Yeah you tend to have your lights on for too long. Also when i had issues with my xenia in the beginning of my tank it was due to nitrates.

Like others asked before, did you light acclimate the xenia? Going from PCs to T5HO is a large change of par and can be causing your issues.

It's been in about 3 months it was doing great until the light change.

You have a few options. Change your light cycle to actinic 8 hours and daylight 6-7 hours or you can put the xenia on the bottom of your tank and slowly move it back up to where it was over a few weeks.

You could try shading the coral by placing layers of plastic mesh on the top of your tank. Then, every few days remove a layer and the coral will slowly become acclimated.

You can also take patio screen and cut a few piece to put over your top...this helps filter some of the light until corals get acclimated and remove ever few days. I went this route when i swtich from PCs to MH.

I really don't want to get rid of the new light. It's awesome and looks great. But I don't want to burn up my livestock.

Noone said anything about getting rid of the light. Just to acclimate the coral and ways that you can acclimate them to your new lights.

Nope, it will not affect any of your fish. Light will still get through, just won't be as strong.

Great minds think alike. noo2usa, if anything, having a screen on the tank will benefit the fish- they wont be able to jump out!
