The MH in pic2 has been switched over to an 8 bulb T-5 setup now.

Woooooooooowwwwww, that's gargantumongous!

I lust after doing something on that scale... my hubby would never have it. I'm pretty sure at that point he would cease calling it a saltwater obsession, and I would have to start using symbols to convey his comments... *&&%^&^%^%*&(&*^^&!!!

Sweet setup! Since switching over from mh to t5 have you noticed any changes in the frags? Better growth/colors?

Marooneytunes. Definitely swing by. Where are you from?

With the T-5s, there is just so much more light than the 400 watt MH, that I am battling a bit of an algae issue. I just added carbon, and rowaphos reactors this week to try and take away anything feeding the issue. I also added a yellow tang that is doing a bang up job of mowing. ;) The tank is mostly zoo frags. They love the extra light, especially the caribbeans. :)

Cool. Not that far. You ought to make it down for the Columbus All Ohio Frag Swap the end of September. Always tons of nice corals available. :)

wow, very nice! I wanted to get some stacking done here, but in earthquake country I had to go for a low to the floor design...

do the t5's work better for you in terms of growth and color? I find that with 400w 15k XM's I get insane growth and intense color, but wow is that power bill high!

Ya, stacking wouldn't be any fun where the ground shakes occasionally. ;)

I like the T-5s so far. Most of the stuff I put on the site is grown under them. My caribbean frags are mostly kept under 250 watt 20K XM, but thats just because that is what was over that tank. ;) The heat issue was one of the reasons I switched. Even so, I still have a controller flipping the lights on and off at different periods of the day and night so theren't more than a couple lights on at the same time.

I also have a 12K air conditioner running for the room for the 85-90+ degree summers. I'm glad I only deal with the heat bigtime for a few months. Cant imagine my setup out there in Cali with the year round heat and high cost of electric.

actually, I'm about 4-5 miles from the beach, so the heat's not bad at all, the mainland gets it pretty bad though. freakin power bills are intense here unfortunately, I call it the enron legacy, good thing the house didn't come with an a/c or the bills would be huge!

have you found that the t5's make them lose a little color? I've got one t5 tank, and every zoo I've put in it has turned blander, even though the intensity is the same
