The very first picture are tunicates, very cool filter feeders. The eggs on the glass are likely snail eggs however i'm not able to determine what type. Someone with better eyes than I will chime in :)

I would say tank looks great. As long as that top rock is secure from tumbling over and the 1 inch you mentioned on the sides is enough to clean the glass you are fine.

First, welcome to R2R!!! What is the battleship made out of? Is it designed for saltwater aquarium use? It may be possible to add a coating but I personally would be wary of taking that approach.
