What is the big deal with "get it now soon to be tyree"? Is this like a license to kill..or in this case a license to jack the prices up on hobbyist? If tyree somehow chooses you as the lucky individual that he will loan you his name to sell corals with. How much more per coral do you get to jack the price up because it is now tyreefied. Don't vendors feel silly that you got this wild coral and were able to grow and propogate and color up these beautiful pieces just to turn around and let tyree put his stamp on it and he had absolutely nothing to do with the piece? I am just really confused why someone would do something only to let someone else get credited with it? Does that extra price tag really warrant the giddiness that I see going on "omg buy this now for this price cuz once tyree says so I will charge you 50$ more for this exact same piece". How about you guys do your tyree hustle behind closed doors instead of flaunting it to everyone that you will soon be raising the price for no reason at all and you think people should still support you because you are raising prices for no apparent reason. You haven't made the piece more colorful, grow quicker, I can't lick it and get high....you just slapped tyree le on the name. Could anyone explain this concept to me?

It's marketing. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Vendors are in the business to make money. This isn't a hobby for them, it is their livlyhood.

The one thing ima say here is.... Tyree used to be special to me I still love the old school tyree sticks some of the nicest around..,, any more I think it's just who's friends with who... I personally don't like everything being tagged soon to be tyree yada yada yada it doesn't mean anything to me any more... Like I said at one point and time it had it's purpose.... Nowa days it's nothing more than a tag..... Sucks to I almost feel like he's getting a bad rap for it....

Yes its marketing..but these vendors hang here like they are just hobbyists like you and I. They already sell stuff at a higher rate than would the average hobbyist but then to blatently tell you they will charge you an extra 50$ cuz its got the tyree in front of the name. makes sense for vendors absolutely...what about the consumers? Are we as hobbyists that stupid that we are fooled and have that much money that we don't mind paying 50$ for "tyree" in front of the name, and with this wonderful forum we know who's coral it is...and it ain't tyree.

50$ i wish try 500$!

It's pure b.s. A feeble attempt at marketing that ends up being a swindle more than anything. As long as the suckers are willing to line up and buy Tyree LEs this will continue. All we can do is ignore it and not buy into it. Right?
If Tyree were actually collecting one of a kind corals from the wild or developing some other form of providing a legitimate basis for calling something a limited edition that would be another story...but all of the corals he gets are from other hobbyists and from trades with other retailers. It's a joke.

if someone is going to pay then the name game will continue.

I totally agree with you. Vendors should not be allowed to post in the hobbyist threads.

The name Tyree hardly marks a corals value up anymore,it dosent compare...I wish people would stop saying that

Tyree
Jason Fox
WWC
SC

etc. They do not mark the value up at all,it dosent add cost to the coral either, there are plenty of other corals out there with out the name, for a higher price.

Tyree Superman Chalice-$100 a eye
Vedor with nice chalice frag like the Blood Orange-$400

Dosent compare.

I always thought Tyree corals were pieces that are proven in captivity. I saw a post on another forum about a chalice going LE that has been in the vendors possession maybe a month...

Here is what I thought Tyree originally meant.

It was a stamp of approval in a sense.

If a coral had Tyree on it it was gauranteed(spelled wrong) to hold its colors in captivity.

It was an aquaculture stamp for the more exotic corals.

I still think it is this, just alot of people get upset when a Tyree coral is super high priced, the person who originates the coral has ALOT to do with the price. So do not just point your fingers at Tyree and get upset thinking he is trying to take your money.

If you don't like what he is doing dont buy LE's and dont type reeffarmers.com in you URL bar.

Really? So the posts where vendors say buy it now at this price cuz soon tyree will stamp this coral and it will now be sold at this price. Thats not marking the value up? Pretty sure ive seen it in more than one thread...or maybe I dreamt it?

I am really bummed about it myself... I have a few corals that I brought into captivity and there very nice pieces I always wanted to have a tyree piece.... I always thought of it as tank of the month a great accomplishment.... Now a days I feel like the standard is lowered so not even worth it..... I wish back in 2000 I had sent a piece in and it became a tyree it would have really meant something IMHO.... I bet I could send half my tank now and it would get stamped that does me no good...

Marketing on the vendors side, possibly. They might just want people to think they are getting a superb deal?

I never said tyree set the price. Pretty sure I said the vendor does that?

I wasn't saying you did,I was just answering that, as it ALWAYS comes up in these type threads.

ps.Im not mad if it comes across as that

Vendors dont know what Tyrees going to sell it for!Sorry, but thats not true!Vendors dont even know what the price is going to be unless they can see the future, lol

Tyree sets a price BELOW,WAY BELOW,its general selling level, and lets the people bid on it or sells it to a private buyer,he has NOTHING to do with the price at all in a scence.

klr it used to be that way, but i can attest that there are many that dont keep their colors.they are also not aquacultured in many different systems either
its getting to be the common place that being tyree means it just costs more. and if you say its because its been in captivity for awhile then perhaps, but 3 months isnt very long!

What he is saying Austin is!!!!! Future tyree get it now before the price goes up $50 I have seen it a million times by numerous vendors... I'll tell you right now that does not make me jump and buy it.. Actually it ticks me off and I move on to the next thread...
