KLR, you thought wrong buddy. You have no clue what you're talking about. The whole entire rationale for the LE concept used to be posted on Tyree's page and may still be. It has NOTHING to do with aquaculture, color retention , or any of that. It is a marketing scheme. He would encourage other "farmers" to use the LE label and was the way he sold corals when he still did waiting lists for everything based on growth rates which he no longer does. Is there anything inherently wrong with using a marketing scheme like this? I don't think there is. But I also don't think there's anything wrong with calling it out and talking about in a forum. It might save some noobs who are in awe of him from wasting their money.

Ahh,my bad.

Even at that, the vendors will sell the piece for more than it ever will sell for from Tyree. Guranteed this past year unless there is a HUGE demand for the piece being LE'ed.

What is the most expensive recent LE though???? $150ish?

They use to(1+ years ago) would sell for $300+ a frag.

But what I DO NOT GET AT ALL is how people will GLADLY pay $700 for 1 frag of a coral that was in the ocean 2 weeks ago but they get upset if Tyree if he sells something for $100. (Im not pointing fingers, just a general statement here)

Maybe some people are mis-understanding what he does, and think he is the reason for 1k corals ot something? Im not sure.

To all of my post above,I dont want to sound rude or mean or know-it-all,but man guys, come one, there is a thread like this EVERY month. And it gets old. Tyree is a guy who sells corals, end of story,if you like it,and have the money, buy it,if you dont have the money, wait and buy it till it lowers in price,if you just hate coral LEing, dont buy it at all!

Im not trying to be a jerk, but Im just not sure why this is a topic brough up all the time.

It's got nothing to do with tyree pricing the coral it's the vendor who says future tyree soon price going up.... How does tyree justify a vendor charging more??? That's what he is asking....

If holding color meant nothing there would be 10 times more LE's. Im pretty sure that plays a role in what and what not gets LEed,from experience I know this.

Steve himself told me if it does not hold its color it will NOT be an LE,so im pretty sure I am correct on that.

Thats the price that what the heck sold it for,Tyree didnt post the price on the site I dont belive as it was sold to a private buyer through Tyree.

Oooo I forgot about holygrail. BUT that was already a sell out at $500 an eye before Steve saw it so,once again, he had really had nothing to do with the price.

could of fooled me as soon as it went tyree the price went to 950(on sale)
look back to that sales thread i even said something about it when it happened

Yeah IMHO it used to mean it had been in captivity and held it's color... Look at the pink lemonade, purple monster etc... Not a single morph or dull moment... Now it comes in hot they have to get it stamped pronto before it changes for the worse.. oh well..! Fwiw my hellfire is anything but red it's purple and dark pink.... Nothing like it was originally posted...

i tried to tell you troylee :D
it looks ok, but nothing like the original.

p.s. if troylee was a branding i would take that over tyree anyday

The name Tyree hardly marks a corals value up anymore,it dosent compare...I wish people would stop saying that

Tyree
Jason Fox
WWC
SC

etc. They do not mark the value up at all,it dosent add cost to the coral either, there are plenty of other corals out there with out the name, for a higher price.

Tyree Superman Chalice-$100 a eye
Vedor with nice chalice frag like the Blood Orange-$400

Dosent compare.

Sorry but this is a bunch of nonsense if you ask me, you guys having dinner tomorrow night?

I'm not really on either side here but doesn't the pink lemonade change from yellow/red to green/red in different lighting/water params? I don't really see how that's any different from your hellfire changing colors. Maybe just try moving it around a little bit.

that might be, but if both mine and troys look the same and we use different lighting. i highly doubt its lighting related. perhaps if someone used mixed salt and not NSW their stuff would be the same color

True it can be yellow or green but!!! We all know up high is yellow down low is green... It's not a piece that is super duper red and when you get it's purple... I mean even the latest and greatest from the vendor clearly shows it is a purple piece not red not even close.... Don't get me wrong the hellfire is a nice acro with out a doubt I really like it even thou it's purple... You don't see very many purple acros in the hobby... But red there is no true red acro out there... Lots of pink or maroon etc but show me a fire engine red acro there isn't any!!!! That's what I expected from the hellfire when I bought it...:(

i agree, but it was sold and marketed as RED! not magenta purple or any other color.
