Do you think a bombardment of great looking corals that came from Aussie made it impossible for steve to carry on what he had???? I think about that some times I mean back in the day it was only a gem here or there... Pshhh you see the forums today every day there getting lit up with amazing new corals... How can you pick with so many choices..:tongue:

That is part of the "problem" for sure.

If I were Steve, I'd be grabbing up stuff, too, and slapping my name on it. Otherwise, he'd end up with a site full of old school sticks that nobody (but us crazy folk) wants because they aren't new or shiny enough.

Actually, pricing for most corals that are tyree (this was told to me by a vendor who recently had a coral go le) is set through frag farmers auctions. Whatever someone pays during the auction is taken into consideration and then a price is set. I also think its accurately crazy. But then again so are some of the prices for a lot of the corals sold by vendors. They are quickly pricing people out of the hobby. I know there is overhead and money has to be made to stay in business..but sometimes it's just insane. Sell six frags for 50 instead of one for 200. Net margin is net margin.

Yeah I could go with that... But even me all caught up in the hype at one point would never think twice about picking up a pink lemonade, purple monster, red dragon, grafted simplex just to name a few... There classics and still fetch more than most of the new stuff.... I love my old sticks nothing is ever gonna change that... There all proven winners in my book..;)

Love my PM, PL, and Sky Blue Millepora - I need a lil' Red Dragon action for sure. Had a tiny frag and it didn't make it. Ice Fire is another on my list.

well this thread has went every where but the op stated future tyree... These corals are priced before steve sets the so called standard with his auction... As soon as it gets a seal of approval the already high price gets jacked...:sad:

Sorry about that didn't mean to side track. I tried to stay on topic. It just seems to me that the phrase "if you don't like the price, don't buy it." Is always the answer people want to give. I wonder if costco will ever open a reef store! High quality, low prices. Even name brands.
