New tank with Algae best way to contain

Hi there, I have a 3 month old tank that I turned the lights on a couple weeks ago and started getting algae on the rocks. I’m receiving Scarlet red hermits, some clean up snails, and have a tail spot blenny. Is this algae I should be worried about or will it go away with time? Thanks

    AIO Build Waterbox 15G Peninsula

After some life changes, I’m setting up two new reef tanks in my apartment. I still have a Waterbox 160 running (without me) for the past year in my old house that I am going to have to tear down soon. That was live for 4 years before that. Since that won’t fit in my new place, I ordered a...

Build Thread First tank: 1/2 gallon waterfall

My son sparked my interest in reef tanks, and once we had his up and running, I went straight to work on my first tank. I’ve never been one for the K.I.S.S. method, or “beginner kits”. I always want to have something different, unique, my own. So I started this half gallon pico waterfall tank...

Group of Barnacle Blennies for nano tank?

I am transitioning my nem 4.8G deskmate tank to a 7G sump tank. But I really like the deskmate so plan to use it still. So with that being said. I'm thinking of doing a group of barnacle blennies in the tank. My LFS had some real tiny ones in a pico tank which was cool. Likely juveniles. I...

    Cycling Questions

I'm really new to the hobby and just set up my tank to begin its fishless cycling period. I've looked through some other threads, but want to ask some questions more specific to my tank and lights :]. First, some background info. I did some tests today, and my parameters are as follows pH 7.7...

Nano Build 12 gallon office shallow build

Starting off a new build for a second tank in my office. You can see my previous 75 gallon build. Since I'm starting this one from scratch I want to better keep track of all of the highs and lows for my own memory so here we go. Goals The general idea for this tank is to be low-ish tech (no...

AIO Build Planning a new Mandarin Dragonet Paradise.

Hey everyone, I'm planning an IM 25g Lagoon specifically to support a pair of mandarins. My main goal is to build the ideal copepod habitat, NOT just a reef with some pods, but a full-blown pod engine-farm-machine. I’m already running phyto cultures (nanno and tetra) and copepod cultures...

Build Thread Red Sea Max Nano G2 Peninsula 1st Saltwater

In my intro, I mentioned that my wife finally aquiesced to my wish for a saltwater aquarium. For the months before, I somehow kept leaving out books on saltwater aquaria and dropping into a couple lfs to wander through their aisles. It started to come together, quickly, with rock, sand, and...

AIO Build TV’s IOAOI Coralland 8g (Name Pending)

I’m still suffering from my back injury as I type this, but I need to QT a sick anemone so I figured this would be a good chance to get this up and running! After I’m done treating the anemone, I’ll keep it running and just start cycling it I suppose, even if it’ll be a while before it’s ready...

Nano Build HeadFam Nano 14g est. 2025

Recently I won a Aqueon 14g rimless tank in an IG post by TFH (thanks to them!) so we have decided to set it up as a nano reef tank. The plan is to take this slow, keep it a small budget, and let it mature well before lights added. I hope for it to become a softy and/or anemone tank in the...

Hey everyone! Just want peoples opinion and input on my future tank build. I have debating between these two tanks for a couple weeks now and have no idea which one I should go with. Lion tamers, help me research

Hello all! I'll be frank - I'm completely new to saltwater tanks, ended up on a coral youtube a while ago and was honestly dumbstruck. This is the coolest thing I've ever seen. I have had freshwater tanks in the past, loved it and miss it, and I'm confident that with some research and practice I...

EMERGENCY Reef tank 85 degrees? Dangerous?

I decided to check my temperature today on my 32.5G, and it’s reading 85 degrees Fahrenheit…. All my fish seem to be okay, not gasping for my air or anything… All of my corals are good… I just have some gonis that won’t open up all the way but I’ll be testing my other parameters later this week...

    Flat tank

Several life changes and home shifts later, I still haven’t set up my first tank. I’m not going for size here. I want some colorful anemones & soft corals, preferably self-sustaining. Thinking about where I could put one in my apartment, the best spot seems to be the mantle above the...

Low tech anemone and clownfish cube - will it work?

Hello, I am thinking about small 40x40x40 (64l) anemone cube. I'd like to keep there a cleaning crew, 2 clownfish and a bunch of anemones (like quadricolor bubble tip and similar ones). I would like to run it with a cascade filter, well developed biology from a living rock and sand, use extra...

    UNS60A 8 month update!

This tank had a very rough start. Everything you can imagine has happened. Large parameter swings, equipment mal functions, rookie mistakes, pests, and even a stroke of bad luck LOL. NOW 8 to 9 months later, the tank is starting to mature more and coralline is growing at a nice pace corals are...
