Soooo this is my second saltwater tank. Only 6-7 months after joining this hobby, I am putting together a second and if it doesnt demonstrate how much of a hold this hobby has on me already, I dont know what does haha.

Well if you havent seen my 1st salwater tank you can find it here: Check out my 55 Gallon

The deets:
I literally got a 20 gallon tall tank from PetCo and put together a bunch of random stuff I had sitting in storage. My hope is to make a low end anemone and maroon clown home. Amongst all the stuff I used from storage we have a Fluval 207 canister filter that I filled up with live rock from my 1st tank and ceramic bioballs, a HOB filter that will work as my mechanical with just filter floss (not needed but I like the clear polished water ahah), Sycce powerhead, heater with controller and ATO.

What I added from the store:

NICREW 100 W 2nd Gen Reef Light
Ocean direct sand
Marco Purple Coralline Rocks (Dry)

Goals:

1. To have a rock formation that was more pleasing than my 1st tank. I had no idea you could come up with your rock designs back then so I decided to let the process take longer by not using live rock this time so I could design with glue and rock lol
2. Tank that has an anemone as its main center piece. My 1st run is already full of coral and although I did have an anemone in it for a while, the corals have taken hold of most of the main areas. If I add coral to this tank, I am hoping they will complement the look of the anemone.
3. Maroon clowns are so pretty to me and I'd love to have a pair. That being said, my 55 gallon main display has enough inhabitants as is. Not to mention, there would like be a clash of the titans in my tank if I added maroons with their... gentle... nature and all.

Ended up coming up with this design:

(it is embarrassing how long I played with the rock before I started to glue)

In the tank:

Come along if you are interested on how this project turned out! I am a 2nd year veterinary student and father of two so time is not on my side haha but I do what I can when I find the time!

My most updated pic of the tank as it comes along will live here:

(TO BE ADDED ONCE TANK HAS WATER)

One month and half in from the last pic (lol catching this thread up even tho I just posted a few min ago)

Changed the outlets to glass for the canister and damsel is in! Has been in for 2 weeks and everything is running well. Lights on low for day and night cycle so the fish knows when to sleep lol

CUC so far is just a couple snails and couple hermits. Not much algae yet but im sure the uglies will arrive soon

Finally got these 2 goofs in! They are very healthy already eating and the damsel does not seem to care about them! They also dont mind the damsel!

That's awesome! I've never had luck with getting nice damsels lol. Mine were always the terrorizers of the tank!

Nice pair but they could become a problem in a 20 so keep an eye on them. Females can get pretty big. Mine was probably 4-5" when I rehomed them. They took over half of a 6ft 150g . I couldn't even glue coral to her rocks because she would just rip them off and toss them to the sand

This hobby does have this mysterious draw.
Its really nice having a tank in the bedroom to watch at night and in the morning. Two tanks next to the kitchen table is also nice as is a 7ft tank in the living room so I can watch that when I supposed to be watching some stupid movie. A couple more in the basement so I have an excuse to hide out down there when I need some quiet time. I'd have a pico in my bathroom but it's too small .☺️

Welp we are down to 1 Maroon, the big female. The little male caught ich and passed away a few days later. I have the female and the damsel now in a QT tank dosing copper hoping to eradicate this.

The tank is empty now sitting empty for the next set of weeks but this is the last pic I took a few days ago.

Had a slight diatom boom a week ago and the whole tank was covered in brown. Did nothing. It went away on its own. I am only dosing some AF mud to boost microbiome ✌️

Oh yeah that skunk on the upper right corner is being quarantine as well so I put it in with these guys for now (it is now in copper too) that one will go to my other tank but since the ich incident I want to make sure all is dead
