Yea for the most part. The goal is to match the drain and return as close as possible so just a small amount goes down your secondary

Good morning Kevin! The jury is still out on my euphyllia and I did lose a couple acros and branching cyphastrea. But a lot of my main characters are doing ok. And this little plate survived the shipment!

Is this workable for all tanks?

Depends on how your overflow is setup, but in general, yes. You use the gate valve to control the downflow rate.
 
Is this workable for all tanks?

An easy fix for single drain systems: cut a 2'-3' airline tubing and stick it into the overflow tube hanging into the tube about 1'-2'. It's amazing how much that cuts down on the splashing noise.

as far as the splatter hammer- well i dont know about par. i guess i finally found a spot where it was happy and growing and never checked par. but maybe i should move it

Style #1 and style #2 both start at the return using 1 inch tubing to 1 inch PVC that starts the run in both scenarios. I posted pictures to match my description the best I could

Style 1: bottom photo: from the branched tubing to pvc it’ll T to a manifold over the refugium (honestly don’t know what I would use this for so I might not use that manifold, I just saw it on a video once) from that manifold it continues to return #2. Ignore that last placed manifold. That was a mistake. From the right side of the T I’ll have two manifolds and then itll elbow into return #1. One manifold will run GFO and one that will run Carbon as needed, both fitted to 1/2 push connect and back into the return section to be recycled and repeated.

Style #2: all manifolds are run from the right of the starting run T fitting.

What would cause less back pressure and help keep good flow throughout returns? Hope this makes sense. Thanks all.

When I had a single drain, I did the same thing and put a small piece of polyfil over the exposed tube. It was completely quite. Sometime is the air hole is to big it will be noisy as well. You could try to place a small piece of electrical tape and start "closing" off the hole a little bit at a time until it quiets down.

The one with less "parts" will always be less back pressure. However, if you are running a manifold, you can turn up your return pump to increase flow to the tank. Just have ball valves on your manifold so you can control flow to your reactors/equipment.

Yeah that little guy survived shipping and the subsequent coral nuking. It's my first plate and may be one of my favorite corals now
