Well, the chalk basslet's COD was most likely getting too cold that night. Who would have thought you needed a heater IN JUNE with a broken a/c. x.x There's one in there now to keep it from getting colder than 76F.
My fiancee came through again, though. She bought me a lovely little Klein's butterfly from Deep Sea Creations to replace the basslet for my birthday. It's a spunky little thing! I fed the juvy mollies I'm keeping in the quarantine some brine shrimp while the butterfly was acclimating, and it started getting...I don't know, but it was definitely interested because it could smell the food, so I dropped some in the bag. Butterfly actually ate brine shrimp while still in the bag!!! I've never seen a fish do that. Then when I put it in the tank, it didn't dive for cover, so I left the light on. It just cruised around, checking everything out and pecking at anything that looked interesting. I love this fish now XD the mollies try to stay out of its way, and it's very bold but does not bully them.
It has, however, started flashing some. While I don't see any parasites on him, that's the way I've seen ich start, so I'm treating him preemptively. Want to eliminate any issues while he's still eating well.
Deep Sea takes really good care of their fish and corals. I heartily recommend the store for either of those, though their tank setup service really isn't so great...it's located in Temecula, CA. I bought the butterfly the day after it came in, since they don't sell the fish the same day it makes it into the tanks. If you catch them while it's still in the wholesaler's bag, you can buy it first-day, but obviously you won't know if it's eating. Anyway, point is, they did not ignore illness; it just hadn't shown up yet.
