Kalk in my nano g2 xl not keeping up with alk and cal, need to switch soon to 2 part. Thinking about Red Sea Doser or Apex Doser. Thoughts on the two units? I use Apex and Red Sea platform, so using either not an issue.

I have a generally useless take as I only used it for a week before a tank teardown, but I liked the Red Sea doser personally. Calibration was easy, and while many may disagree, I find the Red Sea app to be the best of the bunch (no experience with Apex as a comparison though).

I too have no problem with RS app, think it is good. However, when comparing functionally Apex is better on everything, imo. The hardware is more of an issue imo. Need it to flow a precise amount, several times a day, at a slow rate, and be extremely quiet.
Thanks for your thoughts.

DOS QD simple to setup, no noise whatso ever. Just put in how many ml you want to dose daily, and it splits it up evenly over 24 hours. Or any time period throughout the day if you prefer.

I could be mistaken as I'm not into Apex stuff (have a hard time justifying the investment as I don't really understand the value equation), but I would anticipate that it requires an Apex to manage - so if you don't already have one, and I am correct in my thinking, you're looking at a 4 figure expense just for a dosing solution.

RS for sure. You can change the dosing MLs via the cloud - thus respond to Trident readings from wherever you are in real time. It also closely monitors your reservoir amounts to remind you to refill. I have the 4 head after yours of a basic 2 Head and now can do Mag and 1 other which is very convenient.

Thanks for replys.
I have the Apex, but not the right energy bar. So I would need an expansion module. Cost is approaching $600 so going RS

RS has been bullet proof for me over 3 years now. Compact design is great.

For information purposes. Found the non QD Apex Doser that is compatible with my energy bar at more than $100 off regular price. It doesn’t require any additional equipment. I like RS but prefer Neptune System as I have been using them since the original controller in 2000 and has been flawless. The only difference between QD and older unit is noise and hopefully I can tolerate it?

I have both/All of them
DOS & DOS QD
Reefdos 4 head and 2 head…

The DOS does controlled dosing
The Reefdos is solid also and cheaper

Toss up but IMO all the apps are annoying/fustrating…
If you can stick with a single equipment “universe” that would be my choice

The hydros minnow is also an option for a 2 headed doser. It is a stand alone device so you don’t need any other hydros. The dosers support multiple speed settings and the heads are positive locking (keyed) and not friction type dosing heads. Very flexible dosing schedules and also has dosing container level tracking. Has 4 sense ports so you can add various sensors too.

Thanks. Yes got the DOS, is the sound very noticeable between QD?. I will be running it on the slowest setting. Hopefully I can live with the sound because already spent the money, haha!

Money already spent on DOS, haha, thanks however…

Just as an FYI maybe for the future or someone comes across this post the QD can be plugged in any AC outlet just like the old one. You would just need to purchase the power adapter which iirc is pretty cheap on Amazon for a generic or $34 from Neptune.

I was told by BRS that I needed $170 expansion module to run the QD without the 832 energy bar. If you are correct, I’m very irritated because I would have just purchased the QD. It appears the unit has a plug for power and an aquabus connection, so maybe you are right. I did save $100 +, but poor on BRS’s part. Hopefully noise is ok?

I will let you know, I just got a lot of new Neptune gear at once so of course its not working yet LOL

I've had both and the regular DOS you can hear when it kicks on and off if you're in the same room. The DOS QD you cannot hear at all.

There really isn't a slowest setting that you can change on them, it will adjust the speed to dose the amount you tell it to within the time allowed.

The DOS and DOS QD are not variable speed per say, they have fixed speeds at which they run at.

The regular DOS will NOT run continuously it will always be turning on and off throughout the day.

The DOS QD will run continuously ONLY if you setup the dosing amount to match 7,12 or 25 ml per min. and match this with the dosing time allowed.

For example, 7 ml min over 24 hours is 10,080 ml so it will run nonstop if you set it to dose 24/7.

If you set it to dose 5,040 ml for 12 hours it will run continuously for that period and so on.

It's kind of misleading on Neptunes part.

:)

Yea annoying. The port is there and it works with adapter. The module they’re talking about is the 1Link.

Very happy with the DOS. I can hear it but it only runs for a short time and turns off. I could understand if it ran for several minutes or longer it might be annoying? Very easy to program, as expected with Apex. Great purchase! My other doser, BRS cheap one, is much louder.
