Noah my guy, I’ve given you all of the knowledge I have. The truth remains that any tank is limited to its own volume as far as how many fish you can have. Doesn’t matter if you have another tank plumbed in.

Only time I can think of it making a difference would be if you created a pathway large enough to swim through between two tanks ala najer’s zen twins.

doing so would push your budget much further and isn’t something I’d recommend someone new to reef keeping attempt.

I think I am just going to do my 20 gallon because it will cost a lot more to do my 40 gallon. I’d only do my 40g if my mom helped me pay for it and I moved

I’m gonna do this and 50 lb dry rock, what else do I need? I want to have everything I need to grow whatever before I have fish

I don’t think I will need a powerhead becaus my filter is over 20x turnover. With this system I also think I can grow corals because I have tests and a big light

I still recommend getting one. Just because your filter has a high turnover rate, doesn’t mean it will get water movement throughout the whole tank.
