Well came back from holiday and a conch dead and just empty shell remaining and next day a urchin dead so needed to investigate little further and check wires into pumps and all that and in sump I had thermoter inbetween baffles and seems came off glass and rattling around hitting glass and smashed outer casing only thankfully as I think red in thermoter = Mercury and grey = alcohol but the red is still incased and still rising / falling in temp as wouldnt like to think what would of happenned if Mercury got in tank and if was enough to kill everything, guessing wouldn't of ended good anyhow.
Saltwater mixing now for wc tommorrow and will run tests on all parameters I got and see what's happening and hopefully conch/ urchin died of old age or got killed by hermits/ pistol shrimp, its not ideal but better than bad water or something bad in water like metals and will kill all my inverts in coming days .
Wonder if a dying torch could affect water enough to cause inverts to die as cannot see one tentacle of my green torch since got back home so guessing it's completely gone.will investigate properley tommorrow.

Well I'm officially classed as rubbish at keeping torch corals pfft.ive bought 3 and 3rd one literally on its last legs.but one of them when got home from lfs could see some damage to flesh around outside Skelton and got bjd like straight away so binned it after 3 days, this one in pictures is about maybe 1.5 months old and was all out and great till 1 week before went on holiday the other week and wanted to raise it up 6 inch on the roxkwork but as was going great on the sand I choose to leave as it was as if moved it and started going downhill I wouldn't be around to do anything but first day back from holiday ,I soon noticed it retracted and flesh receded and now looks in a sorry state and looks like bits falling off it,

So not going buy another torch for a year or so incase its tank not mature enough or maybe my nitrates are to high.was around 25-40 ppm nitrates last time I tested which is high by anyone standards so started doing larger wc each week ( from 8%-16% )

I am so done with torches. Fish swim past them, tentacles fall off. I'll keep to hammers and frogspawns for now.
Yeah seems like I'm done with them for time being also.never tried hammers and frogspawn yet, maybe give them a go idk.
My silver belly wrasse often dive bombs the sand to get pods into the water then I get sand floating all over and I read vetteguy iften posting keep torches off sandbed as sand can irritate them so this could of contributed to them also
Just want get this last fish in so fully stocked on fish except left room for one more incase get some kind of coral pest and want buy a wrasse or any fish that helps keep that pest in check ( sounds like good idea in theory in my head ha ha) then want to start stocking and filling tanks with corals and try get them to help me bring these nitrates down, been quite some time like 3- 4 weeks since last tested if I'm honest.

But these nuclear green palys really taking off,got given 2 as a freebie 5 months ago and stayed 2 for few months but 2 months ago one dropped 2 baby's and now the baby's are dropping baby's,there's 12 of them now in a 3-4 inch area and one of the originally paly has moved itself a good 2 inch from the frag plug and other moved about a inch from frag plug so they got ability to move on there own ^_^

Frag plug with one the red arrows and 2 other arrows are to the 2 original nuclear green palys, moved 1 and 2 inch on there own.

Also my lobo still nice and fluffed up daily, and starting to get more redder as did start to go brownish/orange and my newest pinkish zoas getting g more pink as when bought this rock with about 30 pink zoas, about half was very faded and other half the zoas about 20 of green/red they seem to be doing ok but when closed at night you can see what I'm presuming is zoa pox ( white/cream growths) or could be the 2-3 small aiptasia invetween the polyps stinging them maybe ?
Yeah I know once seen the aiptasia I should of took frag out and injected with boiling water or something.well I didn't and I'm hoping " rusty" the copperband will take care of them and any others buy we shall see in time if the produce more and if rusty does his job ha ha

And small red/ green clam stayed alive that inbetwen the zoa polyps for about 1- 2 months so far

At least other things are going well. I love the lobo! I bought one, but I don't really think it's a lobo :(
Yeah so far so good with corals except the 3 torch and a leather stoodstool that got ripped off in the flow.when I read that corals either need low, moderate or high flow ,I think I misjudged what high flow really is ,2 of my wave makers got 8 speed settings and had on 5- 6 but literally ripped the leather through the string that holding it to frag rock so now keep at setting 2 ^_^
Other than that all been good as far as I can remember.
I love all the look of lobo, favia, favittes, acans and scollys but cheapest scolly I see around me is £ 250 which like $ 300 dollars and I not spending that much till I've kept corals longer and got more experience and then maybe I not want to spend £ 250-£650 as that seems to be going rate in lfs near me.but them so called master scollys with its 4 colour strains I think, sure do look nice.

Think one of next corals I'm going buy is a monti cap and get that growing in corner of tank hopefully and maybe some mushrooms but need to research which mushrooms grow so fast and very invasive as dont want that kind lol

What color is the scoly?
All different colours I've seen but the ones for over £ 500 are usually red, green, yellow and blue.let me see if can find a picture similar as been over a month since been to a lfs and seen one

Scoly is probably the same care level as a lobo. They like being on a sand bed from what I have read, fed often and a lot.
Was supposed to be a lobo, I am guessing not now. Does not like a lot of light, but is a big pig. Less than 2 inches in size and can eat a lot in the week.

Ha ha I'm not sure as I have trouble seeing of something is a acan, facial, lobo or scilly ha ha.
I think can tell difference than scolly and say favia/Alan's as they smaller than scollys but probably wrong as just went on site of one my local lfs and they saying got in "mini" scollys so now have no clue lol

First image is just random off Internet and colours I generally see in lfs from £250,£650 and 2nd and 3rd image from my lfs of the new mini scollys they got in but different colours than usually have in.if they no more than £50-£60 then would be tempted to get one

I am still learning aout lobo, acans, meat coral and scoly... A whole new world for me.
Funny you mention meat coral as when went to lfs on last trip,I said to guy " hey see this favia" in a smug voice thinking it's 100% a favia,I say how much is it,he says it's a meat coral so I'm like yeah yeah sure it is as I have no clue figuring out which is which,so there went my smug voice and smug look thinking I'm correct lol

I won't pay those prices if i can't id the coral. If things are cheap, I can figure id out later.

Meat coral can get huge.

I also hate auto correct.

Merry Christmas! Little one just got done opening presents here, I wont be on much today.

We go to the inlaws in an hour.

I hope all went well and many smiles last for a very long time. This year almost made me forget how. The people I love kept reminding me. The greatest gift I have ever been given. Still having a reason to smile :)
