Hey everyone. Glad to be on here and to show off some of my handywork!
I got this 2'x2'x2' Marineland 60gal Reef Ready Cube and haven't been able to do anything with it due to financial/housing hardships. This has allowed me to think about/look at others/design the exact stand and hood that I want for it. But I will wait no longer!
Ill put up equipment as people ask.
Here we go! I welded 1.25" tube steel together to make a taller stand than most would probably do. It's 37" tall (I know, it's a 24" tall tank but hey, I don't like stooping down to look at my tanks!). Tons of sheer bracing went in because I don't build ANYTHING that i couldn't park a car on ;) Then I got it powder coated. I skinned the tank in 3/8" maple veneer. Each panel has 2 coats of KillZ Primer and 2 coats of appliance enamel as well. The panels each can come off individually and are held on with magnets. I used to have french cleats on them, but they were giving me a huge headache, so I'm going to try and do away with them for now. Now I'm waiting on the trim pieces to glue onto the panels then I'm pretty much ready to put the tank on it! I wanted to show this off to you folks because I knew you all would fully appreciate the things that I've incorporated into the design of the stand, while my family (non-hobbyists) think it looks nice, but don't totally get how stoked I am for all of this to finally come together!!!!!
Ask any questions you like, Ill accept criticism, but please recognize that this stand is essentially done and I cant really change anything major. Enjoy my first stand build!
