Acan dying.... Need help to save :(

I just got this acan about a month ago. It seemed to be fine at first but the bigger part that is dying stayed shriveled up so I moved it several times made sure to target feed him every day. Water parameters are perfect. I run an algae scrubber have a 36watt uv sterilizer an do a weekly 10% water change. Is it to late to save him or does it look like he could make it. What do you think I should do?

I'm sure the pros will need more info. What size tank? Lighting? Flow? Have you tried hiding it under a shelf with real low flow?

I have a 75g tank with 2x250 mh 4x54watt actinic t5s. I just put him on the bottom with lower flow than he was in.

What are your exact parameters? How old are your test kits? Did you QT/dip the coral before introduction?

First thing to do as we look into this is move it in a low light area now.

I also encountered such problem from time to time with the acans. They are rather sensitive with flow. That was what i did: move it to a place that has low light and flow, feed it with LPS pellet. Of coz, the water parameters have to be optima. Hope this help.

Dip it in Revive, place in low flow, low light. Saved every Acan I've ever had problem with.

Acans are sensitive to phosphates also. What exactly are your parameters. You say they are perfect but let us know to be sure.

Good move placing him in a lower flow area but I would also recommend moving him under a shelf or in a corner with with less light as well. Thats a fair bit of light over an 18" depth tank, depending on what he came from, that could also be adding to his condition.

I'm running a uv to help with algae growth in the tank an to help kill off any unwanted parasites.

UV won't help with algae and it could have some unintended consequences since it kills both the bad and good microorganisms. Unless you have a specific parasite you are trying to kill, I would recommend not using one.

I actually would run UV when setting up a new tank.

UV will kill off some types of algea, its a fact. also it will kill bacteria thats in your water column along with very small live foods, but for a new tank well worth it, Pods grow and mulitply quickly.. Yjay acan looks like it was stung, any way to take a close up? Is there any dead tissue on it? if so be sure to take it out of your tank and wash it off in a dip. For further treatments pm me

Sorry, I was thinking macro algae. Yes, it will kill micro algae.
