I have a 40 breeder with a sump. acrylic welded to the side of the sump is an additional cpr backpack sump.
the backpack is 25Lx12Hx4.5W
Total water volume clearly isn't an issue, the backpack is nearly empty, just has some LR on the bottom and the apex probes at one end, swimming volume is somewhat constrained though.
I cut a window into the stand to allow viewing of the sump, so i want to add a busy fish to it. was thinking maybe a damsel or some other kind of "jerk" fish. This is also where any unwanted hitchhikers or things that eat coral will end up. Kind of like a "reject" tank lol.

there is a mandarin in the main tank, so i don't want anything that will eat pods.

best pic i have on my phone is a sketchup render, i'll have to update the build thread at some point.

It looks like the area is 5 or 6 gallons? You would be better off with small inverts. Maybe some camel back shrimp.

You might be able to get away with a really small fish, doesn't seem large enough to house more than 1 maybe 2 fish. Perhaps a pair of clown fish with an anemone.

the actual tank is about 5 gallons, but it's connected to a system that's closer to 50.
swimming area would be the only real concern, there's plenty of filtration and water volume in the rest of the tank.

already have clowns and nem's in the main tank above, really only looking for 1 fish in the lower one.

Hate to say it but the only fish I would risk in a sump chamber would be a molly.
I actually thought about that, but they can get up to 3", little long seeing how the backpack is only 4.5 wide.

this really isn't a sump. there is no equipment in there except for the neptune probes and the heaters. It's just attached to the sump and overflows back into the sump.
you can kind of see the arrangement here:

Here’s the fuge pictures. It’d be a perfectly safe place for just about anything. Maybe a big cbs would be interesting. Or some small fish that stayed 1-2”.
