I just started getting into sps sticks. I've always had montis with success but wanted to start on acros. I've always heard about AEFW and how these worms can devestate your tank and wipe out colonies. I've checked past threads and learned some info on them but I would have thought there would be a sticky of general information on it. Do these worms attack all types of sps? Do they attack other corals beside sps? Can a tank be infested with them, even though you don't have sps? How long do they survive without a food source? How are they transmitted into your tank (only by frags or new colonies)? Known treatments and natural predators? I'd like to know whatever info you have on these so I can try to avoid and be prepared just in case. I'm sure others venturing into the world of sps would love to hear it too. Thanks, Frank!

Yeah, I know. I was sifting through a bunch of them to try to pick up useful info but there are too many to do so with patience. A sticky would be great, thanks!

For the time being a quarantine and agressive dipping weekly for 3 weeks or so is the best defense... If your display has them it is best to go stickless for 6 to 8 weeks to starve them out.... I found revive does a great job on the frags I have treated... If I see eggs it goes straight in the trash I can't risk it man.... No and if or buts about it... That's just me thou..

Any fish will fwiw but you have to get them into the water Coloum by blasting with a turkey Baster etc... It's very hard if not impossible to see them on a acro a fish can't find them nor the naked eye...:

I was trying to get a reef pest thread going but not too much info in it yet. Here is a link https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/general-reef-discussions/55739-reef-pests.html

The only fool proof way to keep pests out of your tank is to quarantine all new additions to your tank. This way they can be observed and treated if necessary. I dip everything that goes into my tank and I still ended up with pests. The dips will usually kill pests but not the eggs, so you dip it and you think it good and meanwhile you got little nasties munching on your corals. When it comes to monti eating nudi's and AEFW you can't see them until they are adults but by then you've got trouble. I've got to take some pics of some affected corals that I have so that you can see.

i had to deal with AEFW about a year ago when i got a few nice wild acros. haha man have i learned to dip since then... but i would really say that having 6line in the tank reallllly does help quite alot. i was dipping all my acros bi weekly trying to kill off every generation and all that, but they always came back. when i would hold up a colony that had alot of hiding room in front of a powerhead, you would see like ten per colony fly off into the tank, and not all the fish would go for them. thats when i got my sixline, and that lil sucker is a straight sniper man. i put my powerheads on my colonies for a few weeks and just let that wrasse go to work. i havent had any issues since i got it... i still dip everything now just in case but i thank my wrasse for taking care of the problem when i had it.

I believe that the Leopard and Melanarus Wrasses are FW killers also. I had those brown algae eating flatworms that you find on the bottom part of your glass. Picked up a Leopard wrasse and in a couple weeks I couldn't find any FW's.
