Also, try not to be angry, just try to learn from it. I saw you read through my introducing my Mag thread. results like yours are exactly why I usually turn flow off completely if I can't be there for some reason or another after adding a new nem or if one has recently walked. It sucks, but all you can do is learn from it and hopefully we can get it healed up. Having it in Cipro early will hopefully fight off any infections it may get. Just a waiting game at this point. After your 7-10 days of Cipro run him in a QT with carbon, a power head and an eggcrate (light diffuser) until you feel he's healthy enough to give the DT another shot. Once you move out of Cipro phase you can also give him a coffee mug or shallow dish with some sand to encourage attachment. That should help give you an idea of if he's healthy enough to attach in the main DT.

Thanks ... upset with myself. But it’s all good. It’s alive or now. Foot is in slightly worse shape than it first appeared but we will see. I’ll run the Cipro and hopefully he recovers.

You’re right. Live and learn. I continue to strive to be better.

Foot injuries aren't always the death nail they once were. They're definitely at the top of the list of bad, but I;ve seen many make it through. Stay positive!

complete dang fail.... trusted my staff to keep an eye on it with the powerhead on the other side of the tank. told them, "if it starts moving at all ... turn off the powerhead. here is how" ... yeah, so they didn't ... i'm pretty angry and upset .. somewhat at myself for running the other power head at all. its in hospital tank with cipro right now ... it is still sticky and foot is barely torn .. oral disk is a mess. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr so upset .

i dont even know what to say ....

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately damage to the foot is almost always a death sentence for long tentacle anemones. For whatever reason they just don't recover from it like other nems often can.

I’m pleased to report that it is actually looking ok in hospital tank. He’s under XR15 with dim blues only. Only flow is return flow. I’m glad I have the QT always ready. He has moved himself out of the coffee cup I put him in and he is now at the base of a rock and glass in a thin layer of sand.

About 65-70% of his radius is ok. The other 30-35% looks pretty chewed up. The bottom most portion of the foot seems ok with no cuts on the bottom. I can’t really see the oral disk. The red flesh along the uppermost side of his body has a laceration about an inch long. It’s gaped about 1/4 inch. He’s opened up and the tentacles that are ok are fully expanded. I will keep up with cipro for the next 9days. I think I will run out on day 7 so I have more coming. I do have other meds if it doesn’t come in time.

He was due to be fed yesterday before all this happened. I am not sure if I should do anything at this point with feeding. At most some passive filter food like Roids or Chili. I may wait for tomorrow.

I’ll keep you updated and tr6 to get some pics.

Just because it's not "white" doesn't mean it's not bleached. Just from looking at the color, I can say it looks very bleached. That is not a normal color for a LTA. Whatever LFS you got it from, I wouldn't go back there if they sold you that. IMO.

Well @Amoo , I can't begin to tell you how bad this guy looked after the power head ate him. You can see the pics I first posted. He had to be 7" from side to side and when I cut the power head grate and eased him out, he had to be about the size of a golf ball completely deflated and limp. His foot was still hard in spots but he had some bad gashes including a long one up his side. I couldn't tell the extent of the damage really. I thought it was a goner for sure. I saw no tentacles that didn't look torn and I thought his mouth was chewed up.

I moved him to a QT with no lights and put him in a coffee mug and dosed the tank with 500mg Cipro per 10g to get things rolling. He opened up about an hour later and then he sat in the coffee mug for a while. The next morning when I saw him, he was inflated and had moved out of the coffee mug and up against a rock and a little bit of sand that was in the bottom of my QT.

I have not fed him anything. I have upped the lights slowly from 10% blues only to 35% blues only as of today. After the first dose, I only add 250mg of Cipro each evening right after I do about a 30% water change.

He definitely has a gash up his side as you can see in the pic - its kind of a white looking fleshy spot right in front vertically along his body. He's lost quite a few tentacles along about a 35% arc but it doesn't look too bad at the moment. He is inflated still and is fairly set on the rock. I don't want to touch him to get better pics or anything.

Hopefully he recovers, then I can figure out how to resolve his bleaching .. its a waiting game at this point. I'm still cautiously optimistic. File Oct 07, 12 11 31 PM.jpeg
