Any Comic Book collectors out there?

When I was a kid I used to work at a Sporting Goods/Sports Card/Comic Book store. This was between the years of 1988 to about 1996. I had a nice little collection going, but then I became interested in girls, sports, cars etc and things changed. I ended up selling everyting I had. Well the other night I was looking at all these Comic Books online and noticed that some of the ones I used to have are behind glass so to say and are graded. They weren't big money items, but they were still worth something. Anyways I got to thinking, I've got a good job right now, have just set up a second reef tank and still have a little extra money to spend. Are buying some of these old comic books worth it? I'm not really trying to make a profit on them, but I'll probably buy some of the ones I like and just store them. I guess I could always sell them if i get into a bind, but I hope that doesn't happen. Do any of you do this? Any information regarding the subject would be great. Thanks. :)

I sold my collection a couple years ago. Comics are crazy hot. Basically everyone is playing speculator trying to guess where marvel/DC will be going and buying up first appearances. I got lucky and bought a ton of cheap 1st appearances when I got into it and marvel decided to put them on screen (Vision, Iron Fist and Daredevil were the main ones). All that said, if you have something you want then buy it. The era you're talking about is notorious for not being super valuable so I'd say that's a positive.

The R2R equivalent in the comic book world would be the CGC Collectors board. They're some of the nerdiest people I've ever seen online and I always felt 100% confident buying on there. Also, as with this hobby and LFSs, there are Local comic stores (LCS) that may be able to help you out.

I'd also suggest picking up some Trade Paperbacks if you're interested in reading comics. They're much cheaper than buying individually and will include the entire story arc in one book.

I have a pretty decent collection at the moment. Not a real big $$ since most are from 70-90s when production was huge, but none the less have some great pieces. Cards and collector items as well.
