Any Comic Book collectors out there?

I sold most of my collection to pay for my 240g. Some were worth a lot and others I sold for less than I paid. I'm still kinda connected as I ship comics to a guy in the Philippines that sells them over there. He bought a bunch from me and then asked if he purchased them on eBay, had sellers send them to me, would I hold them and send huge boxes 2-3 times a year. I was suspicious at first but I've been doing it for a couple years now. I charge a little extra for each box and it helps pay for fish or corals. I also get to see a lot of the collectible comics come through. There are some crazy 3D lenticular covers now that are incredible.

Wow! It seems like there's quite a few people who get a kick out of this stuff. Thanks for the replies. :)

Like mentioned above I'm not really trying to make any money off these, I just figured instead of putting $200, $300 etc in the bank and sitting on it I can buy a few nice comics and enjoy those instead. FWIW here's a few more I'm eyeballing as well. See a pattern there? All Todd McFarlane covers. That guy was one of my favorites.

Ooooooh, I've got that 316 somewhere! One of my favorites as Venom was one of my favorites! I actually remember the shop and moment I bought that one. Oh man. Memories!!

Some eye candy for you Todd McFarlane guys.

I have a modest collection that I accumulated during the early 90's.
I grew up a big Batman fan so a bulk of my collection falls with those titles. But I was big into the new Image titles; WildCATS, Cyber Force, StormWatch, Gen 13 and Spawn, of course. I also collected the revamped X-Men series when Jim Lee was on board.
My favorite artists were Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, Gregg Capullo, J. Scott Campbell and Bart Sears. Does Bruce Timm count?

Speaking of Bruce Timm and the animated Batman cartoon series...
Here's a couple of my books that have gotten hot lately; I wonder why?!

Even though the value of this collection has dropped in the past few years, I have a feeling that they'll see a resurgence.

But odds are, I don't think I could bring myself to selling anything in my collection.
(And I have an attic full of carded action figures also!)

I don't know how you're sitting on those. Harley Quinn is the 1st or 2nd hottest character out there.

It's easy. I'm a huge fan!

When the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon debuted, I was attending college for film animation so that show instantly became my favorite; cartoon and version of the Batman mythos. I was taping the episodes on VHS and starting collecting the toys, comics and spent a lot of time and money in the Warner Bros. Studio Stores buying artwork and collectibles. I still have all of those items in storage; except for the DVD collections which I periodically watch an episode or two.

Keeping these collectibles is worth far more than the value of the items.
I can find many other ways to make that amount of cash without selling those collectibles that have sentimental value.
When the time comes, my collections will go to my kids and they can do what they wish with them.

I have most of the first 15 X-Factor comics that I bought when I was in HS and packed them in plastic protectors. I also have the first 4 Star Wars comics, but they are in terrible shape.
I have no idea what any of them are worth.

I sold my collection a couple years ago. Comics are crazy hot. Basically everyone is playing speculator trying to guess where marvel/DC will be going and buying up first appearances. I got lucky and bought a ton of cheap 1st appearances when I got into it and marvel decided to put them on screen (Vision, Iron Fist and Daredevil were the main ones). All that said, if you have something you want then buy it. The era you're talking about is notorious for not being super valuable so I'd say that's a positive.

The R2R equivalent in the comic book world would be the CGC Collectors board. They're some of the nerdiest people I've ever seen online and I always felt 100% confident buying on there. Also, as with this hobby and LFSs, there are Local comic stores (LCS) that may be able to help you out.

I'd also suggest picking up some Trade Paperbacks if you're interested in reading comics. They're much cheaper than buying individually and will include the entire story arc in one book.

Quick question regarding the CGC & grading if you don't mind?

Why is it that two identical comics with the same grade have different prices? I understand that some of the comics are signed or might be a variant etc, but what about the run of the mill comics right off the stand? Just as an example, why would a Spawn #1 with a 9.8 grade be priced at $50 while another one with the same grade is priced at $35? Do I always choose the more expensive one? Thanks. :)

Some have a pedigree but you don't usually see that with modern comics. The difference in price is likely someone just trying to get more for the same. Pretty much it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. All the purchases actually stay on record so anyone can see what that exact comic was sold for last and in the past. There are also different levels of grading so keep that in mind. I buy to collect not sell

They're both CGC graded the same? I'd verify the number on the CGC website and then get the cheaper one.

They are being bid on that's why the cost difference. They will both prob get higher.

Well it looks like you can bid on the first two, but then there's one for $80.00, $83.97, $84.95, $99.75, and 109.95. All of which have the same grade and can be purchased now if I wanted to. What's the difference between the one for $80.00 and the one for $109.95 if they can both be purchased today?

Probably what whoever put them on consignment set as a price.

So basically there's five different owners out there and they all want a different price for their comic, correct? Being that they all have the same grade though, I'm assuming I should always purchase the cheapest one of the lot? I might be overthinking this, but for some reason that doesn't seem right. I feel as though I'm missing something. Hmm...

Hard to gauge condition you not sure if the cheap one sat in a window soaking up the sun. Look at them closely for signs of poor care.

Your assuming they were just graded but they could have been graded years ago. And after that sat in the sun. I know it's sounds strange but I have gotten faded graded comics that were stored poorly. Hanging on a wall being displayed and catching 2 hrs of direct sunlight everyday. You just never know so look closely at the high res images and make a decision. And like someone else said it really depends on what that person feels they can get for it not what the guide states. If they sell one copy for a higher price it gives them history and leverage to sell the next for a bit more.
