Any Thoughts On The Klir Filter?

I have had one for 3 weeks no issue. In my sump the water level doesn’t come any where close to the optical sensor when the return is shut off. I love not having to worry about changing a filter sock any more

You'll have to create a custom plate in the trigger but it fits my trigger 39 after I created a custom plate.

So my tank was making a wierd blooping sound yesterday. I had no idea what was causing it. I couldn't go to bed with that going on and not knowing... so I'm watching my return section where the Klir is and I see a big air bubble, hear a bloop and I think it's coming from the Klir. Yeah, it is. Oh wait, is that the filter cloth dangling inside its channel. Oh, I guess the roll is used up. Hard to tell.. it could have been like that for a few hours, days, who knows. I'm hoping since the blooping was new that it had started recently.

Anyway, I spent about 10-15 minutes pulling it out, taking off the old spool, taking the poly screw out, grabbing a fresh roll, putting that on, wiping down the klir too, putting everything back together and getting it back inside. I'm sure that time will improve as I get used to it...

What was interesting, was about 2/3 of the roll was pretty white. I believe all of that was from the first day, I had the optical sensor not facing away from the drain and it definitely spun way more than it should've. The last 1/3 was pretty grunged up. I didn't realize you don't need the spindle since I had already managed to get it out, but doing that really demonstrated how stinky the whole thing was. Overall quite impressed.

So now it's doing it's thing again. I'm looking forward to monitoring it now from a fresh start. Pretty impressed if I got 2 weeks out of the last third of the roll, it should do much better this time around

Correct. The sock holder on the sump is oval not circle so I cut out a old top from a rubber maid then traced the filter in between the square section and the vertical section right under where it hinges. Then glued that to the top of the sock holder and perfect seal. Also you need to break off the lip on the top of the sump. My trigger has those over hanging lip. I just cut the end with a rotozip then snapped them off.

Does the orientation of the Klir Filter Matter which direction it’s inserted into the filter sock ? I am not sure I am explaining myself correctly but I am trying to figure out if it matters which direction it’s placed and where the flow enters the filter.

It does you want the sensor too be facing away from incoming water turbulence so it won't have false positive water level.

I issued up 4 rolls on my dual klir 4 cause of that issue. :)

Yeah, one thing that they should do in a next revision is allow you some control over the height of the optical sensor. It wouldn't change very much, the roll would still turn the same as it clogs, but at least then you'd realize you need to calibrate the height you want, or at least have like high medium low. Some people don't have an inch and a half rise in the sock overflow. Anyway, luckily I caught that one quickly, but now it's painfully obvious how much roll I really lost. It was probably closer to 3/4 of clean roll.

Thank guys for getting back to me so quick. In that position my cabinet door will not close because the fleece motor is in the way. Is that the only position it could be placed ?

If you remove some material you could easily raise the sensor higher, with a dremel or file even.

You want where the sensor is to be non turbulent.

So the Klir didn't actually fit past the top opening on a Trigger 34? So you cut off the Euro-bracing?

Or was it the sock tray? The sock tray is removable isn't it? So you could just buy a piece of acrylic from Home Depot and make your own hole(s) and use it as the sock tray.

I have a SAPPHIRE20C and the splash cover and the lip is not wide enough to drop the unit into so you have to remove the lip that holds the splash guard.

How about a half circle cup with a smallish hole in the bottom? Water would flow in the hole slowly while the cup acts as a dam from the turbulence. If the water level breaches the top of the cup, it will overflow into the cup triggering the roller. Then the water level in the cup would drain though the hole to reset. Ok, I'm rambling, I'll shut up now. :)

So the only Trigger sump it fits in through the top so far (with confirmation) is the Trigger 39, but you need to make your own sock tray, which is removable. So no permanent modification.

Trigger 34... Unknown

Trigger 20 Cube... Doesn't fit into the sock chamber and needs widening of the chamber to fit.

It would be cool if people posted their sumps and if it fit directly or how you modified it to make it fit.

We already know it fits the Icecap sumps perfectly.
