Any Thoughts On The Klir Filter?

Any idea how long your roll will last? Nice tank btw. Custom?

No idea. Still way to early to tell. It hasnt moved yet. I change 3 socks every week prior to the Klir.

Mine came in on Friday, just insalled it this morning. We had to dremel a bit in our sump to accommodate the unit as the opening above our socks wasn’t large enough. It wasn’t anything too dramatic. We’ll see how it goes.

I finally had time to install mine in my Red Sea Reefer 350. I made a bracket, it has a bit of bypass due to my lackluster milling abilities but the bulk of the water is being filters. I may try to find a way to restrict the bypass but my primary thought is that this is a stopgap until Klir releases their adapter unless theirs has more bypass than mine. :)

I'm sorry I've not read the full thread but if your looking for the creme de la creme then this has got to be a contender. It's the same flow or more as the clarisea SK5000 but the same size as the SK3000. The fleece is 65m long and comes in four different grades from 9-32 microns. It's got an optical sensor and is fully made in the UK.

How is this plumbed? To the drains or passively?( as in a stand-alone unit somewhere in the sump)
Any flow restrictions if plumbed to the drain? If I’m not mistaken the Klir has restrictions on the flow you can run through it

I used Bondic UV Weld to make my adapter but I did it out of the water. Bondic does state that it is non-toxic and will set underwater but I haven't tried using it that way.

Technically it’s not underwater the filter sock try is above the water line , I just don’t want to have my return pump off to long so I’m looking for something that sets quick

Seems like a very promising product. Granted - different tanks / different particulate amounts but I wonder how long the filter will last. Keep us updated.

Just a note of caution
When I loaded the fleece I weakened the paper when I pulled the taped end away from the roll. The tension within the rollers was too great and it tore right at the weakened area. I cut it off and reloaded the fleece.

make sure when you set it inside the sock hole that the folding mechanism of the KLIR does not pinch the fleece paper within its seam. I caught it as I was re-loading mine.

I put this in my Apex for the outlet the Klir is connected to. My hope is that it shuts down the power to the Klir if my high water optical sensor for my ATO is on, my return pump outlet is off, or the Apex loses power. This is to avoid high water situations that are expected and do not mean the fleece needs to be advanced. I put in the defer 15:00 to let the water level settle after the sump level returns to normal. If anyone sees any errors please let me know.

The drains just go into rear box. It can accommodate 2 x 40mm rigid pipe or flexible pipe. It could additionally be used anywhere in the sump fed by a pump. It won't be as efficient used this way but still does a cracking job. It can take 6000ltrs/h. This is a conservative estimate.

I just used the bondic to install my baffle to mod my sump to accommodate the klir worked like a charm , thx for the advice. Next step installing the klir filter!!!

So what you’re saying is that when you turn the pumps off the feed the tank drains then activates the klir one the water reaches the klir sensor?

While I haven't tested it that is my concern. When I turn off my return pump the water level in my sump certainly reaches the sensor on the Klir, and then some. With that happening I can't see why the Klir wouldn't then advance the fleece.

I never took that into consideration , with I install my klir I have to look out for this .. and instead of writing the program why not just get a double outlet and plug it in with your skinner so it turns off with the skimmer or something else? That’s what I’m going to do if need be my skimmer goes off with the return pumps and has a 10 min delay before starting again
