I use bonecutters. They are also good for removing the frags from the plug completely.

Use sidecutters for mine which sometimes leaves a little bit of a stump or you can cut it completely level with a stanley knife if the plugs have been sitting in the water for a while.

Wish i could completely remove them from the plug but the anemones always run into my coralso_O

I cut the stems off almost all my plugs. I simply clamp on with bone cutters, loosely wrap a towel around the cutters and plug, then push down! The plug separates smoothly from the stem and lands softly inside the towel plus the towel cushions my hands when I’m applying pressure to cut :)

One pair of regular pliers in you left hand to hold the plug (being careful not to smash the coral) and in your right hand, angled dykes (wire cutters) to cut the end of the plug. This way you don't lop of a finger or send anything flying.

Bone cutters, or wire snips. Both work great.

I do love the idea of large dog nail trimmers. I'll have to try that next time I have frags. Certainly have a few pairs of those laying around.

I will use a dremel to cut off the plug or if I’m not sure of the placement in my tank I will use dremel to bore a hole in my rocks so it can be removed

Dremel with diamond wheel if you want a clean cut.
This for sure. Easy and I also trim the edges to get rid of the “disk” look. I’ve tried bone cutters and its to risky for your coral and the safety of your self. Some of those suckers are rock solid.
