I use channel locks and just squeeze until it pops.
For the plastic by ones I use a dremmel with a plastic cutting disk

Depends on the material. The common white frag plugs are more brittle and break or cut up easily with "bone cutters"
I have also bought frags on black, more rubber like plugs. I cut those with a hacksaw.
Also, if the coral frag is attached with a lot of glue and the coral has not spread out at the base I just use a flat head screwdriver to pop off the glue. BE CAREFUL. Don't push a screwdriver through you hand!
By the way, I like to put all of my coral frags onto real reef frag rocks. I think they look better from day one and never need removing from the rock.
Exactly I remove the coral from the plug completely. I use a surgical knife it’s very smooth but with extreme caution of course

I've got a couple of frag plugs I want to cut the stems off of in order to mount the frag plug on my rock work. What do you guys use to cut these?
Pair of tile knippers, 15 bucks at Home Depot/Lowes works great, no flying debris, cuts within 1/8" of disk.

Branch clippers, I tried a hand saw once... that coral was long gone after that...

This for sure. Easy and I also trim the edges to get rid of the “disk” look. I’ve tried bone cutters and its to risky for your coral and the safety of your self. Some of those suckers are rock solid.
I do exactly the same thing. Trim off the edges to get rid of the disc look.

Now ya know you can buy frag plugs without the plug... Haha! That’s the easy solution. Of course if you’re growing them out on a frag rack to place at a later date that doesn’t work very well stability wise.

I use my bonecutters for this. I don't generally have to squeeze the bone cutters to the point of "cutting" the frag off the plug, but the flat and angle parts of the bone cutter allow me to slightly squeeze and get ahold of the frag by the rock or superglue right at the base, and then I can grab the plug and it normally removes everything off the plug.

I try to remove the frag from the plug when I can. Otherwise, tinsnips work great.
