Anyone using Dr. Sochting's Oxydator

I had a few small patches of turf algae show up and treated them by applying 3% hydrogen peroxide to them. The algae went away and I was amazed at how clear the tank was the following day, now I'm interested in adding an oxydator.

Tank is 45G based on dimensions, sump is 23G according to manufacturer. I'm guessing 55-60 gallons of actual water volume. SPS corals, refugium with chaeto, Deltec 600i skimmer, pair of clowns, pair of cardinals, pair of filefish, a dottyback, and a blenny are the fish.

I'm thinking of ordering the oxydator A and using 1 catalyst with 6% solution. Anything the experts would recommend doing differently?

An Oxydator will help with algae control by raising the redox. I would use 6% with the 2 catalysts provided. As always keep an eye on all corals for the first half hour of introducing the Oxydator.

I have 2 oxydators in 550 litre water volume, I have never had problems with my cleaner shrimps.

It could very well be one of my fish but the timing is curious.

I have struggled with nems but that could just be co incidental!

Agree it’s usually difficult to pinpoint a cause, which is why I was curious if anyone else has similar issues. Now I can move on :)

In any case, I’ve given up on shrimp.

I do not think that the death of your shrimps is connected to the oxydator because oxydators is very popular among people rising and breeding freshwater shrimps. freshwater shrimps are - IMO - more sensitive than SW shrimps.

Unfortunately, not as widely available in the US. I would get it from that site. I ordered mine from
Germany - about the same cost with shipping.

So - I have a question - I ordered the Oxydator A - the instructions that came with it only were for the D and Mini. Does anyone know the solution strength - and # of catalysts for that size tank. I tried googling it - and for some reason get the same instructions.

Also - can you substitute other liquid for the oxydator solution - i.e. H2O2 - and what strength - thanks in advance - I assume several of you would know.

It sort of doesn't matter, start with a 6% solution and 1 or 2 catalysts, how big are the catalysts you got, if they are for an A just add 1 or 2 and solution.
For the first fill I would add one catalyst, I have switched a few people on to these, it eases the tank into more oxygen, add catalyst 2 at the first refill! ;)

Start with 6%, I use 9% some use higher, observe your tank, watch how things react, I don't use probes, watch your orp!

OK. great - so I dont have to re-order a heavy solution from Germany every 2 months;)... I'm actually waiting until my Mindstream gets here - so I can have a measure of 'O2'.
