Agreed $120 for a 75' I would just get a retractable hose. I bought 2 50ft pythons but that was probably more than 15 years ago and i have no idea how much they were at the time.

I would just use 1/4 inches RO tubing. You can put the pressurize tank near you reef as opposed to near the RO membrane housing. This is as effective as if you move the entire RO contraption to the reef.
Garden hose, non food grade can be a problem but unlikely. We use non food grade container for mixing water all the time. The problem is in the softener that added to non food grade plastic that makes e it soft. This stuff can be toxic
I often just use food grade clear vinyl tubing. These are not expensive. You can get them for about twice the price of cheap garden hose.

I guess over time maybe. Always some degree of risk.
My 4 year old python shows a “coating” of something through the clear but I never thought much of that.
Great tool but not cheap up north here, about $80.
Used the same setup for years never a problem. I did not change brass fittings always flush all my stuff

Yeah it's not like the water sits in it for a long time. I'm sure that is fine. Aquariums are not labs. Fish crap in the water. Mold is everywhere. The sterile concept is absurd. Everything you add to your tank comes in a plastic bottle and you worry about leaching? Come on man
I have read every post as far as In my many years it was always recommended not to drink from garden hoses. True I have no idea just stopped doing it the advice was based on bacterial growth because of heat. Ask Randy Holmes I am not a chemist. He found bacteria in a closed system I an RO system. No Heat No Light ? I use my hose all the time for topping up between water changes and to do water changes. I feel quite comfortable with this system

You can pick up clear hose at a hardware store, along with any fittings you need.
It'll be between plumbing and irrigation stuff but it's doable.
I built a contraption to facilitate water changes doing this.
Role of hose, cut about 18" off
Two barbed irrigation fittings that screw into a 1/2" ball valve
Need a way to start the siphon but it works great.
You could also try PEX but it's not entirely clear, and partially rigid

This hose is for RV and marine plumping. Food garage for human consumption so this should be safe.

I think you are likely right. However, it is not the biological contamination I am thinking about, but the chemical contamination. Plastics leach various chemical out and absorb stuff in. What are these chemicals? That is the reason we have food grade stuff vs. not for food. That is not to say that not food grade means toxic. I just mean that the manufacturer of food grade proved to the FDA that it is safe for food contact.
Also, safe for human does not automatically mean safe for inverts.

a regular garden hose is just fine. People saying you "can't see" what's growing inside them...so, it's dark inside them, so it would be hard pressed to grow anything. However, a clear hose line IS susceptible to light, sun etc, and could create a "growing" environment, for that simple fact. Buy a new hose, cheap garden hose, whatever and use it. It'll be totally fine. Been doing this now for over 25 years and have had ZERO issues. Oh yeah, I'm a kid of the 80's and also drank out of the same type of hose all summer long.
I am the same as you but know better now. As I stated earlier I had a lengthy discussion with Randy Holmes, and he assured me bacteria came grow in a no light situation to be exact an RO system. He had a friend with reduced flow and it was plugged. I now Run a UV light in series. HOWEVER I also use a dedicated garden hose and I think heat is a factor as well. But I use mine so often for top up ect. I am taking the chance that it is not a huge concern. I have no doubt that bacteria grows in it, I cant think of a better way anyway, and the fish have not submitted any complaint cards so zero issues here as well.

as mentioned you can cut the ends off and replace with plastic or better yet RV hose assembly. i am doing the same as you and my mixing station is about the same distance. i am tired of lugging 5g buckets
Want to freak yourself out? Let a water bottle freeze then thaw it look carefully you will see tiny particles of plastic in the water HI BLADDER!
