Banggai Cardinalfish

Just got a Banggai Cardinalfish! It is a very cool fish and a great addition to the tank! Anything I should know about the Banggai Cardinalfish?

Its nocturnal, so it will mostly swim in one spot in the day, and more active at night, except during feeding time. In my experience, they can be picky eaters. I had a pair long ago that only ate mysis (no pellets or flakes). I just got a pair earlier this year and they also don't seem to like pellets. They eat mysis and home made frozen food just fine tho.

Otherwise very peaceful, graceful fish.

One of the easiest fish to keep and bred. Bite sized Meaty foods are best.
They are very peaceful but males will fight other males like most fish. They also have the shortest life span of all the fish we keep of about 4 years. I have kept them a little longer, but thats about it.
You can tell when they are getting old as they lose their nice sheen and their eyes get what looks like cataracts.

Yep, with my pair from many years ago, the female died between 3-4 years of age and the male was 5. I think it was because she was an egg layer so spent a lot of oxidative stress making eggs, while he fasted a lot while holding eggs, which allowed him to age slower.

A great beginner fish!

also in my opinion a gorgeous one, they do well in pairs and are readily bred in the home aquarium.

like stated previously they tend to have shorter life spans, but they’re great fish.

had one for a long time that hosted a sebae anemone in my tank!

Update. Love this little guy. He loves mysis shrimp. Doing well in the tank so far.

It took mine a whole week before it ate anything. Initially very skittish in my tank. Found out they were nocturnal, fed him at night, now hes braver and will eat when everyone else eats :D

Every time I read these posts it makes me question why I have never had them as I really like them, might get a small pair! ;)
