Testing:

dKH: 7.0

  • I know you will think I am a fool but according to my Salifert test kit I have a 7.0
  • I added the 2 drops, continued to add drops one at a time of solution till it turned pink. I read what the syringe said... .76 (meaning I used .24 ml)
  • What do you do with the remainder of the solution that is in the tip
  • I tried testing w/ Hanna again and it's 0.0 (If I remember correctly the solution would be much greener in the past. I think the solution went bad)
Salinity: 35.1
Temp: 80.5

I ordered the additives, OW-25 and TM floating hydro.

I will retest dkh again w/ Salifert.

When I was watching the video on how to use this test they said if new use 4 drops, if a pro use 2 drops.

Should I stick with 4 drops till I have more experience with it?

Something wrong with your hanna.
2 drop are low res and you get twice as many tests.
.76 is what I shoot for and it is 7dkh.
Put the remaining solution back into the container.
When done you need to blow the remaining solution out of the syringe. If you dont the reading will be off on your next test.

2 drops you multiply by 2. So .76 is 3.5 dkh x2 is 7.

Be consistant.

OK, good to know that solution is still good.

I rinse the syringe and container with RODI water and let dry.

OK, 2 drops it is.

@90's reefer thanks again for all your help!!

Please let me know what you recommend for feeding.

I currently have:
  • SA Dry Hatchery (1.2mm small size)
  • Reef Nutrition Crossover Diet (CD Neptune Systems) (a little larger pellets vs the SA Dry Hatchery)
  • LRS Reef Frenzy Nano PE Mysis
  • Hikari Bio-Pure Mysis Shrimp
The photo below should (hopefully) give you an idea of the frozen food size I feed in one sitting. (nickel and dime for refrence)

Wondering amounts and how many times per day?

I feed twice a day. I do not feed dry/pellets very often. I feed mysis, brine, and marime cuisine.
So its really based on how many fish you have.
I feed 3 cubes 2x a day to my 4 tanks/3 systems.
Feed as much as they can eat in 5 minutes to start. Adjust accordingly.
Larrys is good too!
I use it to feed my anemone and scoly.
For reference.
80g
6 saphire damsels
1 file fish

30g remote
Pair of false perculas
File fish
Talbots damsel
Blue green chromis
Diamond goby
6 line
14 total in this combined system

45 frag
Large percula
Large Tomini tang
Pajama cardinal
Pixi hawk
6 line
5 total

Nano
2 bangai cardinals
6 line

So the 3 cubes are spread over the 4 tanks as a reference 2x a day.

The dry food adds quite a bit of po4 to your system so keep that in mind.

Do you feed corals?
I do not directly feed corals except my scoly.

Feed the fish and the fish feed the corals.

I have 3 fish in there.

1 Royal Gamma
1 Starki Damsel
1 Clown Fish
and
1 cleaner shrimp

I would say I feed 1/4 (that picture summed it up) of a cube once a day.
Please let me know what you suggest. Also I'm running low on frozen food. If there is something I should get please let me know.

The OW-25 came in and I have it on the back wall. In the center of the wall, the top of the globe is about 2" below the waterline.

Display Tank Dimensions for this WB MP25 are:
20" length
16" height
15.5" deep

I saw you recommend EISE mode. Done

What level on Speed? I currently have it set to 4 and it's moving water around like a boss. I'll take a video soon.

And the knob? If 12 o'clock was straight up, where should I be on the dial?

Thanks again!!

Else is a good mode to start as its random for speed as its always changing.

Dial turned left slows the pulse time. Right increases it.
Power level is up to you.
I rotate from wave 1, wave 2, else mode every week or so to keep the flow random.

In my 18" nano cube I have ran at full power in all modes so lots of flow. I also will vary the flow speed but keep it above 4.
When you have to increase flow and you will it indicates the pump needs cleaning.
This is a pic of my current setting and an idea of flow.

Have it on 4th speed and EISE. I believe I read and understood that while in EISE mode the knob doesn't matter. But in W1 and W2 it does.

Going to feed the fish again for the 2nd time. Then will test tmrw at noon again.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Noon

Alk:
- Salifert 2 drops: 6.0 dKH (.79ml left, used .21ml)
-Hanna: 5.9dKH (new reagent)

Salinity: 35.1
Temp: 79.5*

Waiting on liquids you mentioned to dose and your recommendations.

Question regarding salinity: I'm shooting for 35 ppm. Should this be slightly higher due to my target temp is 80*?

I target 1.0265. If its between 1.026 and 1.027 im fine.
You need ranges for all parameters so you can adjust when they fall out of range.
Keep measuring the alk.
Looks like you dropped 1dkh in a 24hr period.
Not much you can do until you get 2 part.
Let me know when it gets in and we will set up a dose for your system.

I set my low/target/high parameters on AquaLog (with the parameters you mentioned in past posts)

I will let you know once the 2 part arrives. I will also continue to test everyday at noon. I just want to confirm that it dropped 1 dKH in 24 hours or if it was user error. (Hanna will now confirm my readings using Salifert).

Only way to tell user error is to retest. I will retest if I get a number that does not make sense.
My Hanna and Salifert are typicaly within .2 of each other.
Lets see what tomorrows numbers are.
