I always see Tomini Tangs or Sixline Wrasses in the frag tanks at the store. I’ve always loved the sixline I just know they can be a nightmare with other fish, but if you plan on just keeping for coral they would definitely enjoy the free space to roam and hunt.

I have a variety of fish in my frag tanks but every one of them has a fox face rabbitfish and a yellow tail damsel. The fox face, in my experience, is just as good as any tang at keeping algae at bay with the added bonus of them also eating bubble algae. The yellow tail damsel is great for eradicating red planaria.

I’ll be setting up yet another frag tank soon and it too will have both of the fore mentioned fish. For me, they are pretty much all that is really needed.

Not that you asked, but I’d add that keeping some trochus snails is a good idea as well. They will get into all of the tight spots that the fox face can’t get to.

I have thought about a fox face . How many yellow tails would you out in a 49x24x12 frag tank

Six line was a good little worker in ours, but was a jumper, so mesh is a must. We also had some Pygmy angles in there at times when they were on time out from display, by some miracle they always seemed to behave.

Only one yellow tail. You could get more, but you would ultimately end up with just one anyway. That’s the same dimensions of a 50g lowboy. I have two lowboys and one only has a single fox face and a single yellow tail. It’s my jawbreaker tank, which stays pretty clean with just those guys doing the heavy lifting.
