I was just in the planning stages to make a Marineland 27 gallon cube into my new tank. I plan on drilling the tank and have a 10 gallong sump with a 5 gallon fuge. But my main question I have is what is the best skimmer out there right now? Im looking for a in sump skimmer. What have you used and how well did it work for you? I cant wait to hear what everyone has to say.

I think the Eshopps are pretty good for small tanks like this!Cheap to!

A lot of decent skimmers are out there, but I think a lot of people like the Tunze in sump skimmers a lot. A lot of my friends have found them to be decent without taking up too much space.

I have a Tunze 9002 in the "sump" area of my Solana... it's okay. There's a mod for moving the air intake... quiets it down some and helps make it not as touchy to adjust. I was intrigued by the HOB skimmer that was posted in a thread (I think it was on R2R)... But can't get an answer on how loud it is. 9002 had proven to be the best nano-skimmer I have found, fwiw...

I heard the Tunze 9002 was best for Nanos. There small and does the job. I'm running a Octopus BH-100 Its bulky but does the job. I wouldnt recomend it.

I would say (from what I've heard) either eshopps or maybe a bubble magus. I have an aqua c remora and it does ok but I prolly should have gone with a bubble magus instead. If you have room I'd recommend a 15 gal sump instead of a 10... I went with a ten on my first tank(29gal) and wish I had gone bigger.

vertex is to big for me that is the one that i have runnig in my tank an is more big that my xp1000, i prefer a reef octupus xp1000 sss is small and do very good work

Tunze 9002 if cramp with space, but soo many to choose from now like BM, vertex, SWC etc...

Sapphire aquatics imo is a great nano skimmer I run it on my 29 biocube and it delivers I also run a aquac remora on my jbj but it dosent do the job like the sapphire its been discontinued for whatever reason

The tunze 9002 is a decent skimmer but now there are better nano skimmers for sure now.

I have used the 9002 for a while now and recently switched to Hydor Slim Skim nano and it does a better job. The regualar slim skim is even bigger and does a better job.

The Turboflotor Blue 500 Protein Skimmer by AquaMedic is supposed to be better even yet. I wanted this one but it was to wide for my all in one tank.

Some of the skimmers listed here in this thread really are not nano skimmers but do a good job and are fine if you add a sump anyway.

never really liked the tunzes...tried two and i wasn't impressed. Nano tuners IMO has the best nano skimmers, pricey but simple and efficient :)

tunze 9002 is the most common.. and does work well I've ran mine un-modded for about 6 months with 6 fish in a 34g and never had a problem.. i also had 5 NPS corals that made me over feed the tank..

I have the tunze 9002 in my 29 BC and it's great! It took me a little while to get it tuned in but when it was tuned in I had nasty (good) skimmate. Just make sure the pump isn't backwards because thats what I did and i thought it was broke haha.

i always wondered how well those hydor slim skimmers work. i have a first model aero pump which makes some serious bubbles in my old freshwater tank.

I have heard that Tunze's are very finicky and loud. I was really interesting in the hydor slim myself.
