My tank is a custom made. Dimensions are 72X18x16
I had a Gyre wavemaker 350 and it quit working and I bought another one. But I never really liked how one end of the tank always had detritus trying to start up constantly. If I turned up the wavemaker, it would throw water out of my tank. If I lowered it, it looked like a snow solid and would blow sand everywhere until I had zero left near the end where it was placed. So I invested in 2 Vortech MP40s. After about 7 months of having them. The dry side of one starting making a terrible sound. I contacted vortech and they shipped me the insides of the dry side. I put it together and it has been about 7 months and it started making the same sounds. I just took the one off line and have had the one working. Which stinks, but I was out of warranty and didn’t have $900 to replace it. Now 2 months later my other one is making the same noise. It will make this loud noise until it finally quits working. Again, I do not have $800 or $2000 for two to spend atm. It makes me SICK that these have gone out now that warranty is not available. I even purchased the Vortech pump for the sump. So it would all match. So now, I am needing some advice on what you guys use or what I should do as far as water flow because I’m at a loss and again don’t have $2k to spend on my tank. My tank is a Fish only by the way. I Have 4 fish. One clown (because it’s bonded mate disappeared after 8 years of life) a blue tang, a damsel and a wrasse. I have live rock but no coral. (Which I guess you guys get that being its fish only lol) anyway any help I can get on this would be greatly appreciated!

Tunze has some plain AC (no controller) models like the 6125 too if you're looking for something simple and relatively inexpensive. I think Premium Aquatics still carries them.

Sicce might be another option...although I can't say I have much experience with them.

Would you consider selling the controller and the adapter mam?

MP40s are $460/each and MP60s are $960/each. Anyway, still expensive for a wavemaker. I have many MP40s and MP60s running on all my tanks for without any issues. It’s unlikely that both pumps are bad. What is your aquarium’s thickness? Did you put the spacers on the dry side to match? If noisy, make sure the wet side is aligned and clean? I have an extra wet side and switch it out while soaking the dirty one in citric acid / vinegar every 6mos or so.

Agreed on Tunze - they can last more than a decade with little/no maintenance. Anyway — I just don’t like wires inside the tank hence all my tanks have Ecotech pumps.

Perhaps,

I had bad luck when I would use vinegar (?) to clean and descale wavemaker and protein skimmer pumps. A nice chemist on here recommended diluted muriatic acid or citric acid for pump cleaning because it doesn't attack and wreck the magnetic works inside of these items.

I had to descale more often when I ran elevated dKh and calcium (8+ Alk, 400+ Ca) and the moving parts tended to get scoured from CaCO3 deposition inside the housings. Keeping these parameters closer to NSW reduced the failure of pumps for me, combined with proper cleaning with products other than vinegar.
