Blenny Starvation problem

I’m interested in getting a Blenny but I’ve been reading they starve a lot in captivity, particularly the Midas and lawnmower Blennie’s. Do all Blennies have this problem? If not do you think bicolor, canary, or tailspot Blennies are a good choice?

I’ve never had this problem. I’ve kept lawnmower blennies over the years. On this system I have a starry blenny — basically the same thing. They like to eat film layer algae and you’ll always have an abundance of that. They adapt rapidly to frozen foods. I feed algae infused brine to supplement as well. I can tell you mine has the belly of a fat pig after feeing frozen. I wouldn’t be worried about this as much with keeping them as I would a mandarin for example. The blenny will adapt really well.

Thanks for the input! I was considering a Midas or canary blenny. I might just get the Midas blenny now.

They have such great personalities I would highly recommend them! Great additions to any tank!

My Midas eats anything I put in the tank. The only time he wasn’t a pig for food was a day when he needed to defend his home from a jerk hermit crab. Very hardy and personable fish.

My tailspot blenny, Blennard Part 2, is a little piggy, he loves the hell out of frozen rod’s food and also flakes. He always has the roundest belly lol

I don’t believe Blennies are considered a fish that are difficult to raise in aquariums. I recently added a Midas Blenny. It was cautious for the first day to so but quickly settled in and is out and about all day and eats really well.
