Bluespot Jawfish

I was having trouble with my Bluespot burying my chalices that sit on the sand bed while making his daytime den, yes he sleeps in a den in the back of the tank but during the day comes out front and digs out a burrow under one of my chalices during the day. I think he wants to be front and center so he can see whats going on. He had burried one and I didn't rescue it in time and this is the result:

so I took the chalice away from him and put a large scallop shell over his daytime den so he still has a roof:

He seems ok with it. I love this fish. So interactive and curious.

I've had mine for 5 months now, and he seem fine. They are high strung, and have some specific needs for house building.

Who told you this? They are actually very hardy fish once they get established in your system. Most people lose them to jumping so you must have a cover on your tank.

I've always heard they're difficult keep long term. Apparently they get a disease that jawfish are especially susceptible to. I don't know the details though.

It seems to me that when a fish dies in a system, it was "blue spot disease", never "improper system". Mine seems to be doing great!

I had one for 18 months. Did great for the first year, then basically was blind for the last six months. I had to target feed him at every feeding. It is not a fish I will be trying again unfortunately, as 18 months is actually a pretty long time for them in captivity unfortunately :(

wow, bummer. Could the tank lights have been too bright? I want to avoid that with mine. What did you feed yours?

Does the longevity problem include the Yellow head jawfish? I'm looking to get a couple.
