Sadly I would not be happy with that torch in that condition, unless you got it for a steal and knew it needed some love.
Paid 100 and it’s supposed to be a New York nicks torch. It’s a good lesson learned at this point. This is only my third torch. All of them are doing well so far in the tank. Just want to make sure that this is not a condition you should receive a torch in and that it won’t affect my other healthy torchs in the tank.

I haven’t seen any brown substance coming from the torch. Would you still think it could be BJD?
Doesn't look like bjd.

BJD is more like a cloud the envelopes a head or the entire torch.
Thanks for your help Bryan. You’ve helped me out in a previous post and I greatly appreciate it!

Got it. At this point might be better off removing it from the tank?
If it doesn't appear to be "oozing" something in to the tank I think its pretty safe to leave it be.
Just got home and took this picture from the poly that is messed up. Would you say this is something?

Thats hard to tell, but if that is cloudy/gooey, then I'd start to get a lot more worried.... and bjd can spread, so when I remove them I usually do that in a bowl to try and minimize any of it getting to other parts of teh tank.

Yup as suspected these things can turn south quick into BJD because tissue is compromised and at risk to infection. Looks like the beginning of it. Turn off all flow, take a hose and siphone all that stuff out gently without disturbing it. Then take a container right next to the torch an gently place it in to avoid any of that stuff from spreading in the water column.

I'm not an expert at BJD at all so I think the protocol is a chemiclean/Cipro dip? Someone else will have to touch on that.

Use a iodine dip, i use it on my torches twice a year and they get super happy a day or Two after it. I use sechems dip and i feel very Confident using it because one time a few months back i was treating a suspected ephyllia eating flat worm on a rapunzel torch i had just got. I forgot i had placed it in a dip (i got kids and they distracted me) and it was Left inside the solution for 2 hours and i thought for sure it was gonna be a goner but it opend up nicely the next day and has grown a new head since then 😊

I’d hit the tank with a generalized cipro treatment as well. BJD is pernicious and spreads fairly easily. BJD also seems to be at its worst with Euphyllia and allies ie:frogspawn and hammers with Gonis susceptible as well from personal experience. And yes chemiclean is a noted treatment as well.

Just out of curiosity. I just dipped this torch yesterday in sechems reef dip when I got it. That’s an iodine dip right?

If I hit the tank with chemiclean won’t it mess up the good beneficial bacteria in the tank?

If you follow the instructions you should be fine. I’ve used a few times with no ill effects. Just make sure you do the water change after treatment

That’s not really normal, torches should have full, healthy flesh when you get them. I’d take clear pics and reach out to the vendor ASAP; most reputable sellers will work with you if it arrived in rough shape. In the meantime, keep flow moderate and avoid stressing it further.
