Hey all, sorry new baby stuff lost track of time to update here

Nicrew 200 is installed and running at 80% keeping a similar profile to my radion everything seems to be ok, no bleaching no new losses. So im happy. More coral coverage.

Hanging kit was so easy to install… im thinking on how to 3d print a bracket to hang the AI blade as well. Any 3d print ideas appreciated

Im getting quotes from @Joe Glass Cages for a 5 foot tank so crossing fingers I can make it happen.

I think @Ryan - Serious Reefs said in one of his lives that the 360 gallon with a new kid was tough so coming from an expert like him makes me scared lol

Quote was something like, “Show me someone with three kids under five, setting up the biggest tank of their life just as COVID hits, while also transitioning to a new job, and I’ll show you a struggling tank.” :)

Revised counsel: I still wouldn’t start the biggest tank of my life during a pandemic or major job transition, but the kids part wouldn’t scare me. Big tanks are a lot of work up front, but they are also very forgiving. In some ways, they may actually be a better fit for people with busy lives.

Looking back, it wasn’t really the tank or my life that was the problem. It was a combination of lessons that still needed to be learned, plus the pressure of cameras, which can rush things that should not be rushed.

The biggest lesson was learning high-percentage ways to biome-cycle “high PAR” tanks without the slimes, while also knowing exactly what to do when that cycle doesn’t go as expected.

And regardless of the cameras, the real lesson was taking the time to do it right rather than trying to do it fast.

This is really great revised counsel. It’s refreshing to hear advice evolve as new observations and data come in. Sometimes old recommendations stick around forever in this hobby, so it’s always interesting to hear what you’ve changed your mind on over the years.

You’ve definitely got me thinking about starting to plan the next tank sooner rather than later!

Out of the 9 core principles from your RAP talk on building a biome, are there any that you’d tweak today or put more emphasis on? Any lessons learned since then that have changed how you approach building a healthy biome from the start?

for the past year I could not sleep ashamed of starting with dry rock not live! I could not take a day more of dry rock gang so I did it! I ordered live rock and sand from @LiverockRocks and got it in on Wednesday!

They were amazing and accommodated a pulled ahead timing to work with my schedule!

……….I was told that …..once I have live rock, my tank was incapable of having issues…. Right? RIGHT??

Dont look at the orange frag cups im dipong zoas for something..

Not just dry, but me-made dry. I made the majority of my rock from aragonite sand and cement.

Started with Dry in the nano and live in the pico!

I used dried up live rock from long lost in the corner of my yard. Then dark cycled in a brute for about 4 months. 10/10 recommended way to go if you have the resources. I am actually looking to purchase about 40 lbs of Marco rocks new Fiji pukani rock for the next system!

That was how I started my old 75. Had to wait for the grass to die off and decay while soaking.

Was it only water rocks pump and heater with a tight lid? Or did you add any magic potions for the dark cycle?

I did bacterial supplements and added a GFO reactor to help reduce phosphates. I also did a few 100 pct water changes. I don’t think I had a heater. Just a circ pump but it was spring/summer time.

Mine was freshwater, rock, powerhead in a brute on the porch. After soaking for 3 weeks to know all off everything and leach out the line I swapped it to saltwater and added Trisodium Phosphate and seeded it with about 5 gallons of water pulled from the sump.

Oh no! How much of your stock can you pull out to dip/qt? BJD really sucks! Ive also seen people treat the whole tank with cipro, but i personally have not done that.
