breaking a siphon

hi guys
my return line from the sump splits into 2 locline outlets with a Y fitting in the tank.
like so

my question is, if one end will be deep in the water and the other end will be just under the water line to be able to suck in air when the pump stops, will this break the siphon? or will water keep coming down from one thats deeper?
my logic says it will but i thought i should get a definite answer before i go reconfigure the tank for testing

It should break it. But why would you set it like that?

for starters to get more flow to dead spots in the tank
but the main reason is to agitate the water surface as little as possible.
theres too much shimmer on the sand bed and its reflecting to the ceiling. almost like a constant lighting storm.
the tank looks beautifully crisp and pristine when the outlets are placed deep and the surface is calm.

so thats a definite yes? it will break?

Well, IMO you need surface agitations to have better oxygen exchange and prevent debris film build up on the water surface.



what lights are you running? Perhaps you need diffusers.

Add more powerheads to get rid of dead spot. What are you keeping?

Yes it will break and it's totally fine to use your return flow like that

There’s plenty of surface agitation going on in the sump for oxygen, plus the skimmer. the light Is a diy led build, I thought About adding a diffuser but I’m afraid it will reduce the light intensity Too much

But, it just hit me that the return isn’t going over the glass, but through a hole drilled 2” below the top. So basically it will drain up water up to that level regardless of siphone :/
I guess I’ll need to extend the loclines to be able to arch them over the water level and then go deeper
