Hi!
I’m hoping someone can tell me if this was brown jelly disease. My Trachy went from the first picture to the second in less than 48 hours.
My torch and hammers are ok but Iim worried if it is it would engulf them as well before I can do anything. Should I remove that trachy or does it still have a chance? I think it’s completely gone. This is my second trachy but this one was doing really well until yesterday morning it was covered in slime. Hard to tell if brown or clear under blue light but it just kept losing more and more tissue and within less than 48 hours it’s completely down to the skeleton.
My scoly next to it is starting to have a gaping mouth and I’m a little worried. Is something tearing into them? I do have emerald crabs and hermit and wrasse. I usually watch them when I feed and usually they will be done before it’s lights off as I blow anything else that was uneaten away worried someone would pick at it.
Help. Should I remove it immediately?

I don't believe that it is brown jelly disease. I had an Asian acan that did a similar thing. It was just one head, but it kind of turned brown and rotted away. I don't think that that was brown jelly disease as none of my other corals got sick. If there's still flesh, like rotten flesh or whatever on the skeleton, you can take it out. But to be honest, I would leave it because there's a slight chance that it can start to regrow back, but the chances are low. So if you want to take it out, it might be the safest bet.

If you do notice brown jelly disease, which from the information you gave us, it's hard to tell if it is or not. Try to find ciprofloxacin, you can get it from the vet. I'm sure if you went in and said the reason you needed it, they'd give it to you or there are some websites that you can buy it from without a prescription but going to the vet is probably the easiest way to get it quickly.

Thank you for the quick response you two. Any idea what it could be? I have another trachy coming in. It was suppose to Complement this one. I’m super sad. And I really hope it doesn’t happen to the next one. Im guessing just keep water parameters stable. It’s been hard to keep my biocube cool with the heat in Florida. I’ve actually been turning my led lights off because it gets too hot. I might have to tape computer fans to the hole. Knowing what I know now but I prob wouldn’t get a biocube with the cover. Water box is prob the much better choice.

What are the parameters especially the nutrients as I believe that's what caused my Asian acan to rot away with the brown slime stuff that wasn't bjd. I really don't think it's it's bjd because your other corals would most likely be showing signs by now but ciprofloxacin is always good to have on hand, as BJD is not ruled out. Also, not necessarily why your Coral died but are you dosing amino acids? Because when I started dosing them, my corals have been very, very fluffy and happy and their growth for me has increased a lot. But that's also because the tank is maturing. I use and recommend the aquaforest amino acids. They don't turn my tank yellow like Red Sea and to me they work better.

Thanks so much! That’s really helpful. Yes, parameters are prob the main player. Tank is fairly new and I have it pretty loaded. I have been doing well with changing 10% of water every 3-4 days. But accidentally stretched this to 7 days now. Which was prob the culprit. I’m not dosing amino acid. Tank is cycled pretty well but still very new. Because the tank it pretty loadedim not dosing amino acid. Nitrate is steady but phosphate is high. Trying to bring it down. I dosed 2ml of Red Sea foundation B alk and that may have been the culprit. If so. I’m super sad. I was trying to go slow with the Alk dosing. First time dosing Alk. I think I’ll go back to water changes until the tank stabilizes. All corals doing well except this is my second trachy. And 2nd casualty. My gonis are usually my alarm. They are ok.
Also I saw my naoko wrasse nipping at the food on my scoly and my fungia plate coral. There’s food floating everywhere but he chooses to nip at the ones sitting on them. Any ideas?

RIP my beloved Trachy. I’m so sad! He was so pretty. And he deteriorated so quick that I couldn’t even try to save him. He was gone before I even knew what was happening. Not sure if anyone had this happen before. It was literally in 32 hours. He completely receded to absolutely nothing!
If anyone had this happened before, would like to hear your experience and if you knew what caused it. All other corals next to it are ok. My scoly next to it is ok.

Hey so I also have a biocube. I took off the lid bought a Radion and my tank as been at a constant 77.7 degrees F for over a year. I also live in Florida. I do have a clip made for a 32 biocube that fits in the lid. It holds a computer fan. (3D printed) the lid captures way too much heat.
