Hi everyone,

My name is Moses, and I’m pretty quite new to both the saltwater reef hobby and reef2reef forums. Im having some issues with my Bubble Tip Anemone. He is shriveling up when lights are off and doesn’t look too comfortable. There is a translucent area in the center of the anemone. I bought him on Saturday April 26th 2025(12 days ago). He’s in a 45 gallon tank with a AI Hydra 32HD light. I started this tank February 8th 2025 (89 days ago). Cycled with MicroBacter7. Here is my current stocking/parameters:

Temp: 81°F
Salinity: 1.025
pH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: 10ppm

  • 2 Darwin Clownfish
  • 1 Lawnmower Blenny
  • 1 Diamond Goby
  • 1 Six-Line Wrasse
  • 1 Firefish Goby
  • 1 Yellow Mimic Tang (1.5 inches; planning to upgrade tank within this year)
  • 1 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
  • 3 Red Banded Trochus Snails
  • 5 Astrea Snails
  • 3 Nassarius Snails
  • 4 Scarlet Red Hermit Crabs
  • Zoa Colony
  • Green Star Polyps (small frag)
  • Bubble Tip Anemone

Thank you in advance for any help or pointers.

That anemone does not look too happy. The tank looks very young, have you had the lights on very long? Those rocks look fresh from the quarry and without healthy growth of any periphyton layer that might make the anemone feel more like it was at home in the ocean.

The only other issue might be that 81F is a bit on the warm side, but I think the anemone needs more help than I can give it.
