Phew, I've been at this many years and only in the last few years, after buying from varied hobbyist's and vendors have I ran into issues with unwanted critters.

I suspect something is up with the tank. I have lost a few frags over the last few months while others have survived and thrived. Almost always goes the same way, polyp extension slowly dwindles. Then, either the corals have poor polyp extension or no polyp extension. Usually they will STN from the base up - it's slow, like weeks, sometimes months before it gets bad and then RTN. On occasion I have "thought" I saw something with my Macro lens when taking images. But usually they just look like emerging new coralites. I have seen moving pods on the dead areas but I suspect that is normal. I have tried different positions in the tank with more or less light and different flow's and it doesn't make any difference for the ones not doing well.

I was watching something on Youtube about Tenuis in particular and how common white bugs are. The symptoms being loss of polyp extension, failure to thrive and browning out. The last 3 pieces I lost were all Tenuis. Currently I have a few going down this road that are not tenuis, but a few that are. Losing color (either browning out or lightening), poor polyp extension and some starting to STN from the bottom up. Simultaneously I have other corals growing like weeds with great polyp extension.

The only changing variable at this time is I am starting to use the Captiv8 dosing of trace elements and stopped using the A and K from Tropic Marin. That said I have had these same issues before making this change (I'm still in the process of testing and adjusting). Seems to me that trace elements shouldn't affect polyp extension, but maybe it could. Again, I had these issues when I was just using the A and K too. It's just now I am paying a lot of attention, bugs are on my radar, and I got new frags in January sometime.

Tank is a standard 120 gal with 40 gal sump. Tank is old. At least 3 years but some of the seeding LR came from my old tank which has essentially been around for the last 15 years or more (Velonia and all :(). I'm running an old Tunze skimmer, 4 T5's (all Blue +) with a XR 15 G6 Pro radion, a 12 inch blade and two Kessil 360's. PAR varies from 250 up to the high 400's at mid-day. I monitor ALK with KH keeper and usually only have a daily swing of about .2 to .3 DKH. ALK usually runs high 7's or low 8's. Occasionally I might get a swing of .5 but not usually. I dose a little No3 and occasionally a touch of P04. I dose BRS 2 part and close to a gallon of saturated KALK a day. In fact, recently I have upped the Kalk due to slowly falling ALK. Temps used to fluctuate about 2 degrees but last month I added fans and now only get a 1 degree swing. P04 is usually. around .08 to .1 or there about. NO3 on most ICP's are around 10-20 and my HANNA says the same although my last ICP said 25 or something. Plenty of flow with an Eheim 1048 return, an MP 40, and MP-10, a Nero 5 and a Gyre :).

Lots of pics for you. The bad first, and then some of the healthy ones. I have one close up image of the most obvious "thing" I saw on any corals. On the bottom of the CB Jawdropper where it's just starting to STN I see some suspect little areas....bugs? On the frag rack the PC Rainbow is growing with good PE and the TCG Cherry Bomb right next to it and arriving at the same time, not so good...I will add all of these corals came in with good PE and at the least decent color.

I have ordered some Interceptor (Chews with the "Plus) because that is essentially all I can get. I am pretty sure what I see on the CB Jawdropper is no Bueno. I just found those today after looking extra long and careful at the troubled pieces.

Hmm, do I see the culprits here?

What is this? I read good guys shouldn't be healthy Acro skin....

Was just going through some images and found this guy. I don't thinks it's the same as the others, but this was shortly after the arrival of this piece and it does not look like part of the coral to me.

Your photos and corals look great. Given your level of detail I would say using 2-3 rounds of interceptor could help your corals and give you piece of mind. But, any future corals need to be QT.

Most of the photos show good PE, so maybe not so much bugs.

Thanks for the input - I have Interceptor on order. Won't come for a week or two though. I currently have Coral Rx, Revive, and Bayer on hand. Considering a dip in one of those while I wait.

Polyp extension on the healthy corals is good. On the struggling ones, not so good. Even the ones that look decent, like the Cherry bomb, are significantly reduced to what they were like when I first put them in the tank. I notice a few other pieces now with poor (or none at all) polyp extension as well, but no STN yet. It is very much specific to a particular colony or frags. Some looks great, others are declining. This also makes me think it is not something tank wide, like a parameter or pollutant, or I'd expect all the corals to look bad. A bug that is infecting a specific piece seems more likely.

Cherry bomb when I got it vs now. It looks like it was encrusting and then started going backwards.

Ok, so it's totally bugs, white bugs I think. I need to start another thread about Interceptor. Recommendations are all over the map. Sometimes they stay still for quite some time, but then they are pretty fast once they go. They are dang small! Easy to miss, especially if you don't know what you're looking for or they don't move. I ordered some Interreceptor Plus (only choice) but I am considering finding a local exotic vet and just paying the price to get straight up interceptor.

Yes in deed. I did the second dose Tuesday. Within 24 hours of the first dose I couldn't find even one bug in the regular places I would see them. I'm seeing better polyp extension on a few pieces (not all) and some tissue regeneration where some STN had started on one other piece. So, were off to a good start in just in 7-10 days.

I still have an ongoing dialog with the Vet and she relates info she is getting from other vets on an Aquatic Vet forum. Most of it echoes what has been said here on the forums though there still seems to be a lack of full understanding regarding appropriate dosage. They often cite the dose for RedBugs which I think is one 23mg (Large Dog tablet) will treat 380-400 gallons. People here seem to believe more is needed for these white or grey bugs.

Based on that, I used a fairly high dose (vs the RedBug recommendation) but it was around what many recommended here. I dosed 2 large tablets (so 46mg). I'll do the doses 1 week apart. 3 Weeks for sure and I am considering a 4th one. For some reason one Vet recommended doing 1 dose x 2 weeks, skipping a week and doing then the 3rd dose. No explanation as to why. Seems to me you might as well just do 4 doses and not skip the one on the 3rd week.

No adverse effects noted, though actually I might be seeing a little more Algae and maybe a touch of Dinos (noticed today). No sightings of the good Copepods - they're toast with the bad ones. I used MilbeGuard which is pure Milbemycin I got from the Vet via Rx. The stuff I ordered from Canada took almost a month to arrive and was the Interceptor Sentinal (I ordered pure Interceptor). Sentinal has an added ingredient. I think others have used it without issue, but since I got the pure stuff before I got the Sentinal I just went ahead and used that.

After 48 hours

I should add, now that I know what I am looking for, I see them all over the place. Meaning, I can back in my photos and see some close to a year ago! May explain the STN and loss of some frags along the way, and the lack of progress with some others, while at the same time some flourished. I think they were starting to gain momentum though and the population was growing faster and faster and starting to reach critical mass. When I I scrutinize my images now, I am shocked at how far back I can go and see them present.

Hi there, so it looks like you have these bugs right here, right?
They are literally on all Corals........

How is the tank treatment going for you?

Man, it's a little hard to tell. Mine were not on every coral. I didn't see them on any Montis, and I had some acros where I didn't see them either. They were on the majority of them though.

Yours looks like it has a very triangular head. The ones I had looked that way under certain light but I don't think it was that pronounced and I don't think they actually had triangular heads. Any other pictures?

As for my treatment it went great. I'd have to check the dates but it's been probably 3 weeks since my last dose. After the first dose I never saw another bug. I was just looking today with a Macro lens and didn't see any either (didn't see any good pods either so I will replenishing them soon). My polyp extension is WAY better then it was and growth has ramped up a lot too. I'll have to post some update pictures.

Glad to hear the treatment is going well. How many doses have you done and how many do you plan to do? I believe it is common to do weekly dosing for 3 to 5 weeks straight.

For incoming SPS coral, remove them from the frag plug completely and put them in Interceptor for 24 hours. If you have a separate QT tank then you can put it through a 3-5 week interceptor cycle. Very painful I know! A bunch of people sell SPS and the pictures they post have limited to zero polyp extension. Usually very easy to determine whether they quarantine their coral use and Interceptor or not.

I did 3 doses. The first 2 were a week apart and the last one was at about 9 days. A vet recommended doing 2 doses 1 week apart followed by a third dose at 4 weeks. Common treatments here are 1x per week x 3 weeks. I just did the last dose a little longer.

I didn't use any carbon at all. I did my regular 10-15% weekly WC's. I used a relatively high dose of (2) 23mg tabs per dose for my system of approx 120gal water volume.

I don't plan on adding anything new. My tank is literally over populated already with frags. I did add 2 pieces recently. I did a Coral RX dip. Put them in a small tank i have and inspected them with a Macro lens. Then i did a 12 hour dose of Interceptor before putting them in the tank. Probably should have left them in quarantine another week or more for observation and maybe even another interceptor dose but I didn't.
