Can I use these lights?

I have two lights that I had used in a 210 gallon freshwater tank. I would like to use them in a new 40 gallon breeder tank which I was hoping to set up as a coral and maybe a few invertebrates. I know very little about saltwater and nothing about lighting requirements. They are fluval 48” Aquasky 2.0.

I think those lights are going to be underpowered PAR wise for coral and not the necessary lighting spectrum either.

If you don't know much about saltwater lighting, and especially corals you should spend some time learning before getting any corals.
You can set up your tank and run any lights (or none at all) when you have just fish. Once you learn coral lighting requirements and reef lighting you can decide on which lights and corals to try out.

If you're setting up a 40g breeder, lights like these would be more appropriate. The 100w version would be ok for softy and LPS, the 150w or 200w version would be suitable for SPS. You do need a controller if you want it to ramp up and down.

Do some more research on the coral you want to keep and general lighting guidelines. Remember, you can always get an overpowered light and turn it down as long as it's controllable, but you cant get more light out of a underpowered light.

A 27 watt light is like a candle , for maybe a 10 gallon tank.
For a 40 breeder get something like the 150 or 200 watt nicrew. you need something in that wattage range to be powerful enough to light your tank

Yes, as supplemental lighting. You may be able to achieve a decent 10k Kelvin look. (Blueish white) changing the channels or using presets. This will be your fill light. You will need some legit reef lights to be successful with corals. There are dozens of options. You already spent $300 on the fluvals so use them. If they are over 4 years old maybe not. You can use 2 puck style lights or blade styles it depends on your preference for mounting aesthetics.
