It kind of does. It's attached to that rock. I've never had a fungia. Do they attach to rocks?

That's exactly what that is, and yes they do as babies. Once they grow to a certain size the "stem" which attaches them will break off.

And now you know why they are called "mushroom corals"; fungia! Yet the hobby tends to label corallimorphs as mushrooms...

Wow. Never knew? This makes me beyond happy. Glad I waited it out and watched it.

Like mentioned above sometimes when they're small they'll be attached to a rock, but as they get bigger they tend to break off and settle on the bottom.

This was at my LFS at one time.
