I've only ever bought SPS corals and some LPS like plate corals. Never got into the whole chalice and acan craze...until today. I bought an Acan and a Chalice frag.

I have a barebottom tank. If I place the chalice on the bottom will it encrust and grow onto the bottom of the tank? I dont want it to stick to the bottom...I'd like to be able to occassionaly pick it up and frag it/clean the bottom of the tank etc etc.

I would love it if they didnt stick/grow onto the bottom, but be like plate corals and grow without attaching onto whatever they were placed on.

If they do stick to the bottom, how do you guys keep them on the bottom without the coral growing on the bottom and manage to cut frags etc?

Thanks.

Glue the encrusted frag plug onto a larger frag disk.
I had that idea in mind in order to prevent the chalice from sticking to my tanks base...but do they actually encrust and stick to the bottom? Sorry for being so stupid with this...I'm just such a newbie to these corals.

Thanks.

I have never had a chalice stick like a sps would. Most encrust right on top never attaching. A few do but a razed blade picks them right up with no harm to them.

Thank you! Thats the info I was after. Many thanks. D@mn... this is the main reason I havent been buying them...thinking they'd stick to the barebottom tank. Well, that means I can buy a few more haha!

Thanks again for the info. :)

Yup like I said most won't. I have a few chalice that just grow over the disks never attach. Most frags I cut as well once I cut the disk a small razor pops then off the disk with ease without any damage.
