Ok so next question... I have a 28 gallon HQI nano w/ 50 or so lbs of LR.

How many hermit crabs and how many snails do you think I should get? Is it still 1 per gallon or whatever the recommendation used to be?

I think I'm going to go Scarlet hermits, cerith & astrea snails.

Interesting thought... I plan on keeping 4-5 fish and a lot of coral in my new nano... Aren't the hermits good for picking up the stray pcs of food etc? I guess I could get a couple shrimp and a serpent star or something...

Any other comments?

Hermits are good for that but after a while they tend to get big and kill snails and take over shells, steal food from corals, and knock over things.

+1 on knock things over!
I have a chalice that was just taking off and one of my hermits that took on a shell WAY to big for itself knocked it right into my acan! GULP!

I hear ya... Snails are good at knocking stuff over too though lol. My turbo snails were like tanks. I am not getting those again.

I wouldn't put more than 1 turbo snail in a nano tank. A couple cerith, a couple nassarius and 1 trochus and call it a day. No crabs!
